Happy birthday, Dr. Monty Downs, who celebrated his special day Saturday. Are we having a party at the Wilcox Medical Center’s Emergency Room for the occasion? Happy birthday, Keith Fujimoto, who got an early-morning bike ride to Nawiliwili Harbor (anyone see that fancy new sign in the jetty wall parking area?) Thursday. That’s the same day as the Nawiliwili Yacht Club Rum Series Race that Wesley Hayashi watched as the Delta Airlines jet come cruising in over the fleet of boats.

Kudos to Chris Machorek, Jaye Gayagas-Youn, Barbara Gusman and all the Sheraton Kaua‘i at Coconut Beach partners for hosting a food and meal (go, chef Lucas Sauter, who got help from the Hawai‘i Army National Guard — they get to eat Kaua‘i Kookie food) distribution for the resort’s furloughed workers. WalletHub states Hawai‘i had 88,774 unemployed people in June.
Laurie Ho (she had to go visit Marina Pascua for Family Community Education matters, too) represented Johnny Gordines (he was stuck on O‘ahu) of the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau, who came to check on Tina Brun and the St. Raphael Church (are we going to have the Christmas light show?) pantry program distribution. Mahalo to Chyenne Beach for the heads-up on this one that featured more than 150 families getting food packages. Tina said they’ll do it again Aug. 20.
Happy Sunday. Finish those state taxes. Hawai‘i tax day is Monday.
