NAWILIWILI — Just in time for the long Fourth of July weekend, the Timbers Resort and the Ocean Course at Hokuala announced its opening, effective today.
“We also received approval for shotgun starts and tournaments,” said Kellie Hines, the Professional Golf Association head golf professional at Hokuala. “We need to let the Boys &Girls Club, and the YWCA of Kaua‘i know that for their planning.”
Play is governed by the rules and guidelines established for the pandemic to ensure the health and safety of both the Hokuala staff and golfers. Face masks must be worn in and around the clubhouse, and social distancing compliant with current federal, state and county are in effect.
“This is all about sanitizing,” said Myles Suguitan, the lead golf attendant, wiping down a golf cart while waiting on a final tour ahead of the opening.
Tee times are available Wednesdays through Sundays, and reservations and prepayment must be done ahead of time through the website, golfhokuala.com, or the Ocean Course app. Reservations can also be made by calling 241-6000.
The Ocean Course at Hokuala has been closed since March when Hawai‘i was impacted by the COVID-19. During this time, the course was maintained by a skeleton crew that also worked on some of the course improvements that would otherwise not be possible when play is allowed.
“The flags go up Wednesday morning,” said Hines, who toured the course ahead of its opening. “We open at the same time as the Timbers Resort — July 1.”
