“E Hanai ‘Ai” means “a socially responsible, drive-thru lu‘au-to-go,” and featured the traditional Hawaiian foods either meat or vegetarian lu‘au that were ordered and paid for online and picked up according to schedule. Other add-ons in the ‘aina-to-table feast included poi, kalo pa‘a, kulolo, and Hawaiian iced teas including mamaki and hibiscus ‘awapuhi flavors.
Entertainment during the webinar featured Kekai Chock for the event that was not as high profile as the usual Kamehameha Day parade and ho‘olaule‘a. Kudos to all on a great COVID-19 alternative (just like high school graduations).
Kudos, too, to the Nawiliwili Yacht Club, on being OK’d by Mayor Derek Kawakami and the state Department of Transportation Harbors Division to resume its Thursday Shoreline Racing Series, where the jetty parking area was packed with cars after being shut out of the area for so long. Mavis Aiu broke her leg on a piece of washed-up debris on the beach, and with so many beaches being closed, there was no place to get materials for a Kaua‘i Society of Artists’ Washed Up show piece.
Christina Ensman of Operation Christmas Child (remember they did the Mother’s Day distribution?) said they will offer a Father’s Day distribution Saturday, June 20, from 9 a.m. at the Breath of Life Church in the Rice Shopping Center on Rice Street in Lihu‘e.
