Ernest ‘Ernie’ Souza Carvalho Jr.
Ernest “Ernie” Souza Carvalho Jr., 59, of Anahola, passed away at home on May 15, 2020. He was born in Lihu‘e, on June 24, 1960, and was employed as a maintenance man with hotels.
He was preceded in death by father Ernest S. Carvalho Sr. and sister Audrey Barretto.
He is survived by daughter Kristen Nanea Ka‘auwai, mother Alice Carvalho, siblings Steven (Lizanne) Carvalho, Alan (Garyann) Carvalho, Valerie (Joseph) Contrades, Ricky (Anna) Carvalho and Philbert (Desiree Tung Loong) Carvalho, grandson Tristen Keoua Medeiros, and numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services will be held.

Davin Jasen Koerte
Davin Jasen Koerte passed away on May 8, 2020, in Kapa‘a, at the age of 34. He was born on Dec. 10, 1985, in Tucson.
He was preceded in death by father David Koerte Jr., grandmother Concepion Medina, paternal grandfather David Koerte, and maternal grandparents Joseph and Beatrice Medina.
He is survived by fiancée Blazey Dee of Kapa‘a, mother Marlow Koerte of Wailua, brothers Michael (Lu) Koerte of Kekaha and David Koerte III of Las Vegas, sister Tina Marie Silva of Koloa, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins
Talk story is from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i, with a celebration of life at 5 p.m.

Masao ‘Murphy’ Yamamoto
Masao “Murphy” Yamamoto, 85, of Lihu‘e, passed away on May 5, 2020, in a private care home in Kapa‘a. He was born in Koloa, on Sept. 21, 1934, and retired from being an accountant for the County of Kaua‘i Department of Water. He was a member of Koloa Lions Club for over 50 years.
He was preceded in death by parents Sakujiu and Machi Yamamoto, brothers Rikito, Mitsuo and Yoshio Yamamoto, sisters Satsue Ono and Fumie Oda, and nephew John Yamamoto.
He is survived by wife Joan Hayashi Yamamoto of Hanama‘ulu, daughter Lynn Labasan (Ricky-deceased) of Portland, Oregon, son Wade (Carol) Yamamoto of Las Vegas, sister Masako Yamada of O‘ahu, and grandchildren Stephanie (Jay) Brink and Rachel Labasan.
Private services were held.

Bernice Aiko Kubota
Bernice Aiko Kubota passed away on May 7, 2020, at home, at the age of 100. She was born on Aug. 17, 1919, in Lawa‘i. She was a licensed practical nurse.
She was preceded in death by husband Shigome Kubota, parents Sataro and Suna Hamamura, brother George Hamamura and sisters Hanayo Sugawa, Doris Imamura and Margaret Goo.
She is survived by sons Brian Kubota of Lawrence, Kansas and Burt Kubota of Koloa, daughters Adele (Don) Stevens of Honolulu, Louella Rita of Colorado and Shirley Sue Kubota of Koloa, grandchildren Galvin (Kathy) Rita of Colorado, Kelliann (Leland Ibara) Rita of ‘Oma‘o, Abbie Aiko Stevens of Honolulu, Mayumi Stevens of Honolulu, Jeffery Kubota of Kansas, Vicki Kubota of Chicago and Amy Kubota of Massachusetts, great-grandchildren Randen Rita of Colorado, Rylan Rita of Colorado and Sloane Ibara of ‘Oma‘o, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be announced later. Interment will be at Lawa‘i Cemetery.
