Kama‘aina rate packs Koloa Landing
Kama‘aina rate packs Koloa Landing
Aloha.
Something special is happening in Po‘ipu, and I suspect other resort areas around the island. I am giving a shout out to my neighbor, Koloa Landing. Yesterday, as I walked through the usually c-virus empty parking lot, it wasn’t. Full to the brim, and not with rental cars.
Went to the pool, and it was loaded with local families, kids, parents, tutus, all excitedly enjoying that beautiful property. I asked a couple folks what was going on, and they said the hotel had cut prices so deeply that it was affordable and filled up with all local residents having an experience they normally can’t afford.
I heard other hotels are doing the same. So rooms are filled and employees back to work. Win-win. It occurred that tourist companies could do the same thing and get their businesses up and running again, as busy as they want.
Who hasn’t wanted to experience a sunset cruise to Napali, or snorkel Ni‘ihau side, zipline, horseback ride, ATV, etc.? If these companies cut their prices in half, they could bring back their employees and be very busy, and I suspect profitable. They would be charging less, but maybe with greater bookings. Moreover, if this experiment works and these companies thrive, then when visitors slowly return, you could keep the same low rates for kama‘aina and financially profit, plus provide a wonderful opportunity for the rest of us to enjoy our island as visitors do.
Mahalo.
