KEKAHA — St. Theresa School recently announced the eighth-grade graduating class of 2020.
Casey Kanoe Dusenberry has attended St. Theresa School since second grade. She has excelled in her studies. She served on the student council for four years, and was student council president her eighth-grade year. Her dedication to learning and natural leadership abilities have earned her both the annual Walter H. Souza Award for academic effort and the St. Theresa Little Flower Award for following the example of the school’s patron saint in doing small deeds with great love. Her leadership at STS has set an example for all to follow. She is the eighth-grade valedictorian, and will attend Kamehameha School at Kapalama on O‘ahu in the fall.
Melissa Thompson has attended St. Theresa School since sixth grade. She has touched St. Theresa School with her love for working with younger learners. She is a shining example of kindness and patience, making sure all children have a friend on the playground, according to a release from the school. She loves to read, and has set a precedent of taking a book with her wherever she goes. She has inspired other learners to read in their spare time. She and her family have participated actively in all STS functions, and have been a vital part of our school. She is a talented performer and singer, participating in all theater and talent performances possible. She will attend Waimea High School in the fall.
Josey Ann Mattos has attended St. Theresa School since sixth grade. She has brought an air of creativity and artistic inspiration to the eighth-grade class. She is a talented artist both in drawing and theater. She is constantly cultivating her love of art and has thrived in the art class of Miss Rickards. She shines brightly on the stage and is a natural performer who is able to immerse herself in a character role and grab the audience’s attention. She is an insightful thinker who sparks deeper conversation in the classroom. Her family have been long-standing attendees and supporters of St. Theresa School and parish. They are vital not only to the school, but to the Kekaha community. She will attend Waimea High School in the fall.
STS graduation will take place in a small, private ceremony on the school grounds on May 27. The Rev. Edwin Conselva, church pastor, will be present to hand out diplomas and bless the eighth-graders as they move on to the next step in their academic life.
