HANAPEPE — Several restaurants on Kaua‘i are teaming up to celebrate matriarchs over the age of 80 on Mother’s Day with a free meal, flowers and a few other treats.
Spearheaded by Japanese Grandma’s Cafe, restaurants are accepting donations from community members and donating food themselves to provide Kaua‘i’s kupuna with a good meal on Sunday. In addition to seared ahi, veggie sushi rice and edamame from Japanese Grandma’s Cafe, recipients will get chicken and pasta from JO2, pizza from Domino’s. Desserts will also be provided, as well as cloth napkins, flowers and treats.
The restaurant partnership is also providing food for single moms and their children on Mother’s Day.
Japanese Grandma’s Cafe has already started the campaign in Hanapepe and on April 26, provided 85 meals for Hanapepe seniors as well as furloughed workers and their families.
The effort is continuing past Mother’s Day as well. The restaurant team is challenging other businesses to join together to provide virtual graduation parties to high school seniors on Kaua‘i.
