Happy birthday, Chef Jason Sunada (those Kawai Kokoro scones — love them blueberries — were a definite reminder, Wednesday!), and Sally Cravens (how long is that virtual marathon?) said it’s birthday time for Clay Carvalho as well.

And it’s not just birthdays as Janice Akiyama added a Wilma Chandler (she’s lamenting not being able to visit Josie Pablo and all those Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital kupuna with her Kapa‘a High School Class of ‘65) face mask (double-sided, no less) to the COVID-19 collection…Nikki Ige of Grove Farm had a “breathable” one from her Oah‘u friends, Wednesday during the Puhi Park Produce (it starts at 10 a.m., Saturday, too) where Stephen Fujii (that 14-day quarantine is keeping him, home!) found a basketful of papaya.
Kudos to Josie Cortez (Brian Curl, too!) and all those Rotarians from the Kapa‘a Rotary Club that launched its first Taste Kokua, on Cinco de Mayo where Rotarians Jakki Nelson, Ron Lemay (he had his Rotary face mask created by Vicky Masuoka?), and Chris Reyher (he even had a Taste of Hawai‘i shirt on to match that birthday sombrero) volunteered to deliver meal orders (over $50) for Mariachi’s as a way to support eateries (nope, Taste of Hawai‘i for 2020 is a victim of COVID-19) who are now limited to just take-out and go.
More kudos to Stacie Chiba-Miguel and Pillare Mukai (wow! got to park next to her Toyota two weeks straight!) on launching the pop up farmers market at The Shops at Kukuiula, Wednesday where Tammy Pu‘u got to find dinner (so did the UPS Man who was heading back to the airport!) while picking up her truck. It’ll be back, Wednesday, starting at 3:30 p.m.
