Kudos to New Hope Lihu‘e Senior Pastor John Cabello (wife Rhonda Cabello was speechless in amazement at the huge turnout), Kaua‘i Police Department Chief Todd Raybuck (even Coco Zickos showed up), and all the many hands that turned out Saturday during the inaugural Police, Pastors &Pancakes drive-thru breakfast giveaway for young people 18 years and under that got help from Grove Farm (yep, the orange-and-black troops were out in force at the Puhi Park Produce, too) and the Puakea Golf Course (chef from the Puakea Grille was among the professional chefs flipping pancakes on the single griddle). According to Pastor John and Raybuck (he had one of those fashionable Teresa Nero fabric face masks, too), we do it again Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Puakea Golf Course in Lihu‘e.

Over at the Puhi Park Produce (mahalo for the green buckets, Shawn Shimabukuro; it’s perfect for those stay-at-home projects), Adam Coyaso was happy to find a place closer to home to vend those fresh coconuts, and Mayette Loseto (too bad Kenny Ishii is still staying at home) had a helper dressed for the COVID-19 lifestyle.
Wow! Forty vendors? The market (Bill Spitz — yep, his face mask came in — still uses it for the home half of his five-mile exercise route) has grown from it original less-than-20 original vendors (Elmer’s still has the social-distancing line, and Ka‘apuni Nursery is pumping out those seedlings since seeds are in short supply…where are the master gardeners when you need them?). OK, we’ll see them again Wednesday starting at 2 p.m. at the park near Grove Farm headquarters in Puhi.
