As the COVID-19 pandemic has swept across the world, it has touched The Garden Island just as it has other businesses and ‘ohanas.
Some of our print sections have shrunk, we’ve furloughed a few employees, and those masked staff members that remain are working fervently to release a daily newspaper for our community while protecting our own health and that of our families.
In this ever-changing time of pandemic, we value the opportunity to keep you informed on issues important to our Kaua‘i community, and we are doing so with fewer pages in some editions and a pause in the production of our local entertainment section, TGIFR!DAY.
We are proud to rise to this challenge.
The Garden Island has to be flexible in order to continue to bring you daily news, and we hope these adjustments in our paper will be temporary. Another change you will be seeing in TGI is a shift to digital-only production of our Saturday editions, starting May 9.
While that means you won’t get a paper copy of The Garden Island on Saturdays, it doesn’t mean the amount of news you receive will change. You’ll be able to access the entire edition in a print replica version stored at thegardenisland.com. It’s the exact same as our printed newspaper. We produce a print replica of our newspaper available on our website daily. Anyone with a subscription already has access to that print replica.
Digitally, news from The Garden Island is available on all devices, and many subscribers already receive their news with just the click of a button. We’ve made it easy for you to access the print replicas of our paper as well as all of our other digital content, and will be mailing out step-by-step instructions to our subscribers on how to activate online accounts.
This decision was difficult to make and it’s hard for all of us at The Garden Island to see the Saturday print copy of TGI eliminated, but we believe it is necessary in order to continue our mission of daily news delivery. Saturday, May 2 will be the last printed edition of The Garden Island newspaper until further notice.

I appreciate still getting the newspaper but I am now confused. Is it just Saturday that will not have a print edition or are you eliminating the print edition for the whole week ? Please clarify.
