Mahalo, Alice Parker (was nice exercise walking to meet that lady, and got to see Mango, too) for that fancy piece of Canon glass.
Mahalo, too, Val Saiki, for the fancy fabric face mask — not only is it double-sided, it has the nose bump so the glasses don’t fog up when you use it. Kelvin Moniz of the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank was holding it until the federal Transportation Security Administration food drive delivery. Mahalo, too, Luis Soltren (he’s got a challenge to other Kaua‘i contractors to help the KIFB effort) for the MREs (meals ready to eat, which remind me of the post-Hurricane ‘Iniki days and the tiny Tobasco bottles) that created quite a stir with the office people.
How many people does it take to sell an Ono Pop? Greg Askew said he took in a webinar from Washington where they suggested two people to man the tent at farmers’ markets, one to deliver the product, and one to handle the money so there’s minimal contamination.
Earlier, he sold a chest freezer to Janice Bond, who got The Salvation Army Lihu‘e Corps crew to carry it off so they can store some of that hamburger donated to the Lihu‘e Corps for their emergency food program.
Chef Judy Capertina of Haole Girl Island Sweets realized there’s no Wednesday market at The Shops at Kukui‘ula, so took advantage of getting out to the Puhi Park Produce event sponsored by Grove Farm. Coach Todd Ozaki, Nikki Ige, Sharyl Lam Yuen and other Grove Farm employees were doing the Earth Day thing Wednesday morning (Nikki said Sharyl is really good about not forgetting things like this).
Don’t forget, Saturday at 9 a.m. is the Police, Pastors & Pancakes gathering at Puakea Golf Course (Grove Farm is also a sponsor of this event), where New Hope Lihu‘e is offering free pancakes to youth 18 years and younger.
In the meantime, it’s time to check out Bobby V’s (they’ll be manning the phones from noon to 6 p.m. for pre-orders) drive-thru for pizza and spaghetti-and-meatball plates from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Coconut Marketplace in Waipouli, to benefit KIFB.
