Q: Does the immediate family members of somebody who was tested need to quarantine until results are given?
A: Those who are tested must quarantine at home until test results are given, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is recommended the person waiting for the result self-isolate in a private room and use a private bathroom, and if contact with others in the home is necessary, to wear a face mask.
Close family members or household members should monitor their symptoms during this time, too.
Q: My temporary handicapped parking placard expires soon. I haven’t been able to see my doctor because of the quarantine and my situation is not critical. I still need to use a cane. How can I get the placard extended?
A: As part of an executive order on March 23, Gov. David Ige continued the use of expired blue long-term placards until emergency suspensions are lifted/until further notice. This means that if a long-term placard has expired during the last few weeks and through the end of the month (or longer if orders are extended), owners are still allowed to use it for parking purposes.
In Kaua‘i, all disability parking permit services must be completed via mail. For renewing a card, either long-term or short-term, a physician must fill out part of the document. If you are unable to visit with a physician, see if there are any that can see you via an online appointment.
