PUHI — The pizzas given away Friday represent hope during this time of frustration and anger, said Kaua‘i Baptist Church Pastor Nathan Grosse while waiting for more pizza for the line of cars that wrapped around Domino’s at Hokulei Village Shopping Center.
“These are trying times for all of us on Kaua‘i,” Grosse said. “All of us have had our families, livelihoods and way of life impacted by COVID-19. We at Kaua‘i Baptist Church want to encourage our community by giving a message of hope. This pizza represents our encouragement to “hang in there, Kaua‘i, we will get through this.”
Originally, Kaua‘i Baptist Church wanted to distribute a hundred pies, and when Domino’s learned of the effort, they chipped in another hundred pies for a total of 200 pizzas given away beginning at noon.
“There is a need for food,” Grosse said. “We were thinking of doing another one, based on the response to this distribution, where we started out with just 100 pizzas. It appears we’ll have to do another one even bigger than this.”
Grosse said Kaua‘i Baptist Church recently launched its pantry program at the church, located at the base of Lala Road in Nawiliwili.
“We have toilet paper,” Grosse said. “We have rice, and we have a lot more. This is open to everyone on Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m.”
