Happy birthday, Jane “CJ” Nakashita (yes, there are people who still remember you), who spent her special day in COVID-19 isolation with her two doggies in the San Francisco area, where they are staying home, too. Darin Moriki (remember him as a TGI reporter back when?) is also in that area, working from home and getting to watch a lot of Hulu and Netflix.

Meanwhile, back on the home front, kudos to Warren Haruki and the Grove Farm ‘ohana (can’t recognize coach Todd Ozaki because of the face mask) on presenting the inaugural Puhi Park Produce market (it comes around again Wednesday starting at 2 p.m.) where Jim Guerber and Larry Feinstein were still in farm-to-table mode, shopping for the Kaua‘i Beer Company menu (yes, there are still hand sanitizers given with family meal orders).
Shawn Shimabukuro was worried about running out of the printed social-distancing guidelines (good thing the office is across the street), and this was a nice chance for Anolani Higashi (no Merrie Monarch Hula Festival this year) to get started with her garden.
Bea Raco was hands-on in helping farmer Wirat Yotcha (he gets to vend in the former Raco restaurant “patio” near PS&D on Rice Street when there is no market), and Christine Mryval (she gets to help Wirat’s family when she’s not caregiving) was on the prowl for squash after dropping off all those drink flats. Glad to see recycling is still alive and well.
Okay, so far, we’ll do it again on Wednesday starting at 2 p.m (is Hanalima Bakery still open?).
