Honeybees battled the gusty winds on the mamo lehua (yes, they have a couple of plantings at Kukui Grove) near Pay Day Hawai‘i where Keiko Ho‘opi‘i said they’ve been working on Easter decorations from before COVID-19 showed up in Hawai‘i. She and Nani Apilado (where was lunch from?) were appropriately masked according to Mayor Derek Kawakami’s recommendation.
Kudos to Kristen Leong and the Leong’s Meat House ‘ohana for banding together to serve free chili to keiki on a day when no grab-and-go meals were being offered at various public schools due to the Good Friday holiday, and Machiko Yamaguchi was anxiously awaiting the start of Puhi Park Produce (kudos, Warren Haruki and the Grove Farm ‘ohana on the effort. See the story and photo on the outdoor market, A4) in downtown Kapa‘a, where the traffic migrated to Lihu‘e on the holiday.
More kudos to Shereen Ho‘opi‘i and her Lili‘uokalani Trust ‘ohana for working with Wes Perreira and Michelle Panoke of the Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i branch to get a food distribution done in the Lihu‘e area. The AFL-CIO did nearly 350 bags earlier.
Stacie Chiba-Miguel of The Shops at Kukui‘ula changed her Easter focus by donating all of their goodies to Kelvin Moniz of the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank to use as treats for the KIFB food deliveries.

Can you do a piece about Wilcox hospital/ garden island Unit- as of this time one family member can visit every 24 hours if the patient is dying, but once they are transferred to hospice at Garden Island care unit [ there at the Wilcox hospital ] no family is allowed to visit their dying/hospice family member. This is a great hardship- perhaps with the Zuckerberg money they can designate a special place for these special situations.
