HANALEI — The deadline is nearing for North Shore students to apply for the Kaua‘i North Shore Lions Club 2020 annual scholarship program, with a total of $40,000 up for grabs to go toward education.
All applications must be postmarked by Monday, March 31.
For the second year in a row, the Steve and Janine Hunt Family Foundation has pledged $20,000 to the fund, matching the money earned from the Lion’s Club golf tournament, the primary source of scholarship funds.
To qualify, students must attend full time an institution of higher learning, have a GPA of 2.0 or higher, and must live on the North Shore between Moloa‘a and Ha‘ena. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academic performance, leadership, community involvement and volunteerism.
Applications may be obtained at any high school counselor’s office, including Kapa‘a High, the Island School and Kaua‘i Community College financial aid offices, and at kauainorthshorelions.org.
For more than 30 years the Kaua‘i North Shore Lions Club has awarded scholarships to deserving students of Kaua‘i’s North Shore, to support and encourage continuing education for the youth of Kaua‘i.
Last year the club awarded more than $40,000 to help students with college expenses.
The Kaua‘i North Shore Lions Club was founded in 1982 to serve Kaua‘i’s North Shore communities and the International Lions’ focus on helping those with vision and hearing impairments.
