Morgan Lopez and Dan King of the Hawai‘i Lodging &Tourism Association Kaua‘i Chapter were super busy, helping host the Maison du Savoir event at Kaua‘i Community College (yes, Coach Ipo Yoshioka was there, along with Gary Elwood and his creative-media people), and then less than a day later, launched the 2020 Kaua‘i Visitor Industry Charity Walk festivities.
Josie Pablo of the Hawai‘i Health Systems Corporation Kaua‘i Region said the residents from both Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital and Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital are getting excited about being able to participate again. Melissa McFerrin-Warrack (her Florida convention was canceled because of the coronavirus) said the countdown is going to be bigger than ever when it takes place May 2 (that’s the day after Lei Day), a week before the walk.
Wayne Yoshihara and Sharolyn Segundo said there are still a couple of lanes available for the charity walk bowling gathering that rolls April 11, and, of course, the charity walk shirt for this year is a winner. You still see previous years’ shirts around town.
Stacie Chiba Miguel and Pillare Mukai are also off and running, hosting The Flavors of Kukui‘ula benefiting the charity walk Friday with a big silent auction and live entertainment as well as all those street food specials.
Kudos to Waimea High School baseball coach Chad Delanoza and the Menehune athletic department on hosting the Walter Souza Invitational Baseball Tournament (love the fact games are all over the place). There were even scouts from four different professional baseball organizations looking at players Friday during the games at Ron Martin Field in Kapa‘a.
