Ernest ‘Pops’ Palmeira
Ernest “Pops” Palmeira passed away on Jan. 8, 2020, at the age of 90. He was born on July 9, 1929, in Wailua Homesteads. He was a musician and rancher on Kauai.
He is preceded in death by his parents John and Daisy Palmeira; brothers, Antone, John and Walter Palmeira,; grandson Wesley Palmeira.
He is survived by Alice G Palmeira; sons, Alan (Sandra) Palmeira, Gary (Carol) Palmeira, Warren (Abby) Palmeira; daughter Adele Palmeira Shinn; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapaa on March 7, 2020, with visitation from 8 to 10 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be held at later date.

Gary Steven Humphrey
Gary Steven Humphrey fell asleep on Jan. 27, 2020, at the age of 60. He was born on Dec. 31, 1959, in Long Beach, California, to the late James Miller Humphrey and Ava Marie Hall. He was a carpenter by trade and was employed at Stonetree Construction.
He is survived by his wife Janeen Humphrey; son Shea (Jonna) Fabiana; granddaughters Rylee and Zoee Fabiana; sister Annette Delgado of Yucaipa, California; brothers Jim (Bonnie) Humphrey of Houston, Texas and Rick (Rosie) Humphrey of Yucaipa, California; nieces and nephews as well as extended family.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020, at the Kauai Veterans Center: 3215 Kapule Hwy. Lihue. Visitation begins at 4:30 p.m. Casual attire requested.
Ernesto G. Coloma Sr.
Ernesto G. Coloma Sr., 66, of Lihue, passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Jan. 31, 2020. He was born in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on April 17, 1953, and worked as an electronics technician for the FAA.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jorge and Benita Coloma; son Ernest Coloma Jr.; brothers Loreto and Eugenio Coloma.
Ernesto Sr. is survived by his wife Pat Coloma; daughters, Emme Lynn Taylor, Erin Coloma; sister Josie Pasion; grandchildren, Ayzia Sierra Aceret-Coloma, Gerald Ernest Aceret-Coloma, Aiyrah McKenzye Aceret-Coloma; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of Ernesto’s life will be held on March 14, 2020, at Immaculate Conception Church. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m., services at 10 a.m. and burial at Kauai Memorial Gardens to follow.

Jason ‘Gooba’ Kunane Aquino
Jason ‘Gooba’ Kunane Aquino of Kekaha, passed away on Feb. 6, 2020, at the age of 46. Born on June 6, 1973, in Waimea, he was a crew leader with Syngenta.
He is preceded in death by his father Alejandro “Sonny” Aquino; son Moses Aquino.
He is survived by his mom Karin Aquino, Kekaha; wife Jerowina Aquino; daughters, Ashley Agor, Washington, Jaslin Aquino, Shania Aquino, Naomi Vidinha and Pfeiffer Aquino, Kekaha, Martina Aquino, Montana; sons Wyatt Aquino and Waylon Aquino, Kekaha; brother James (Sandra) Aquino, San Diego; sister Stacy (Joey) Aquino Bagain, Kekaha; grandson Hunter Aquino-Ortiz (deceased).
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at Kings Chapel, Eleele from 9 a.m to noon.

Wallace F. Moura, 96, of Eleele, passed away on Feb. 16, 2020. He was born in Eleele on March 12, 1923, and was the factory superintendent of McBryde Sugar.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Frances Moura Jr.; brother Clarence Moura; sister Angela Tavares.
He is survived by his wife Violet Reis Moura; daughter Joan Moura; sons, Gary (Lyssa) and Robert (Paige) Moura; grandchildren, Robin (Kahi) Rita, Ryan (Whitney) Moura, Aryn, Ethan, Shayla and Evan Moura; three-great grandchildren; sister Frances Freitas; brother Albert (Dorothy) Moura; cousin Frances Gouveia Hanlin; brother-in-laws, Thomas, Alfred, and Harry Reis; sister-in-law Janet Martin Reis; nieces, Bernie Soto, Shirley (Benny) Laguatan; nephews, John (Nina) Medeiros, Tommy Tavares; among numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins and his beloved dog Teddy.
His celebration of life is Saturday, March 28, 2020, at Sacred Heart Church in Eleele, with visitation at 8:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. There will be a burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

William Anthony Heresa, 54, passed away at home in Anchorage, Alaska. on Dec. 28, 2019. He was born in Lihue, on March 6, 1965, and worked as a mail handler/equipment operator for the U.S. Postal Service. Prior, he served in the U.S. Navy for 6 years.
He is preceded in death by his stepfather William T. Barry; father William C. Heresa; grandparents Crescencia and Frederico Lopez; grandfather Domingo Laranio; grandfather Saturnino Rellin; aunts, Hazel V. Rellin, April J. Rellin; cousin Kevin J. Kaminski.
He is survived by his mother Dolores “Dolly” Barry of Collinsville, Oklahoma.; aunts, Martha (Dennis) Kaminski of Chicago, Illinois, Annie Rellin of Lihue, Sheila (Ralph) Schmarje of Tempe, Arizona, Carmela Cabacungan of Lihue, Novella (Lawrence) Natividad of Waimea; uncles Timothy Laranio and Wayne (Leilani) Laranio of Kapaa; numerous more aunts, uncles and cousins.
His Graveside Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 11 a.m. at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe on March 7, 2019. Lady Ipo Kahaunaele will officiate.

Olsen Louis Ebinger of Ballston Spa, New York, passed away Jan 3, 2020, at Saratoga Springs Hospital, New York, at the age of 68. Born in Lihue, June 15, 1951, and raised in Anahola.
He was preceded in death by his father George Ebinger; his mother Marie Garcia Ebinger; his brothers Gilbert and Hitcliff “Bully” Ebinger.
He is survived by his partner Lori Schultz; his daughters, Melissa Ebinger-Timm (Matt) of Hanamaulu, Sonya Ebinger-Phelps (Stephen) of Murrieta California; son Barry Ebinger also of Murrieta, California; grandchildren, Tori, Tracy, Noah, Brenna Taylor, Dylan; great-granddaughter Emersyn. He was also survived by his sister Flo Munkacsi, of Wailua Homesteads; brothers Hughes (Shirley) of Anahola, Keith (Diane) of Lihue; numerous nieces and nephews.
A gathering to reminisce, to share memories and to reflect on good times will be March 14, 2020, at Lydgate Park, big Pavilion starting at 10 a.m.

Eleanor Chizuko Nishita passed away at Wilcox Memorial on Feb. 5, 2020. She was born on March 24, 1931, in Koloa.
She is survived by her younger brother Roy Nishita; nephews, Paul (Lynn), Peter; nieces, Karen and Kim; great niece Samara. She is also, survived by many relatives in Hawaii and in California.
She is preceded in death by her mother Tokie; father Masato; younger brother Harry Nishita; sister-in-law June (Roy) Nishita.

Januardo V. Ballesteros, 82, of Kapaa, passed away on Feb. 26,2020. He was born in Claveria, Cagayan, Philippines on Aug. 18, 1937, and did construction and landscaping work in the Philippines and Kauai.
He is survived by his wife Norma Ballesteros; son Joseph (Nita) Ballesteros in P.I.; daughters, Mency (Robert) Ramos in P.I., Angelin (Julius) Castro on Kauai, Marites Ballesteros in H.K., Shiella (Barry) Carinio on Kauai, Angelica Ballesteros in P.I.; grandchildren, Rochie Mae, Ryan and Rick Mark Ramos, Daphne Jean, Desiree Jean and Josephine Ballesteros, Julianne, Jericho and Julius Jr. Castro, Frans Kevin Pangilinan, Andrei Ballesteros, Aiesya and Anica Carinio.

Frank Bejo Jr.
Frank Bejo Jr. passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 23, 2020. Born to Frank Sr. and Nellie Bejo Sept. 5, 1967, in Lihue, he has two brothers Eugene from Hilo and Michael (Andrea) Bejo from San Jose, California.
He is preceded in death by father Frank Sr.; maternal grandmother Aquilina Banta.
He is survived by wife Gale Naito Bejo; his loving children, Frank Lenny Kalani-Bejo, Ka’iwi Nadarisay-Bejo, Kristen Naito, Kipp (Brittney) Fujimoto, Micah Perez, Chelsea Naito-Bejo; 6 grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Lydgate Park Pavilion on March 15, 2020, with memorial to begin at 1 p.m. Please join the family in honoring his memory.
Deanna Marie Schafer
Deanna Marie Schafer passed away in her sleep on Feb. 4, 2020, at the age of 59. She was Born in San Diego, California, on Oct. 12, 1960. A long time Kauai resident, Deanna was employed by Hanalei Colony Resort. She was also the owner and operator of the popular and successful, I Do Weddings, Kauai.
Deanna was involved in many community out-reach programs. As a Charter Member of the Hanalei Bay Rotary Club she served many capacities including leading the club as president 2003 to 2004. She was especially active in Youth Services. Deanna was revered as one who would quietly go that “extra mile” with a smile.
Deanna had that special gift of being able to talk to most anyone and put them at ease. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother and a loyal friend. She was a fine cook, craftsperson, avid reader and swimmer.
Deanna was preceded in death by her mother Carol Dombrow.
She is survived by her best friend and husband of 29 years Craig Schafer; her father Charles Dombrow; son Brandon Cook; daughter Nicole Benjamin; brothers, Dennis Dombrow, Dale Dombrow; nine grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 17, 2020, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Waipa, Hanalei.
Gerard Cosmas Silva
Gerard Cosmas Silva, husband of Georgia (Planas) Silva of Kalaheo, passed away peacefully at their home, on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020, at the age of 64, after years of suffering from complications due to MS. He was born to Antone G. and Dorothy (Bukoski) Silva Jr. on Sept. 27, 1955, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital along with his twin brother Bernard Damian Silva.
He is preceded in death by parents Antone G. and Dorothy (Bukoski) Silva Jr.; twin brother Bernard Silva; nephews, Michael Silva, Alexander Martinez; niece baby Hazel Rose Holmberg-Silva; mother-in-law Gregoria Planas. With each of their passings, his heart broke, but in spite of his sorrows and illness, his great sense of humor flourished, and his faith in God grew. Gerard graduated from Kauai High School, worked in the hotel industry at the Waiohai Hotel and Kiahuna Plantation. He had a great love for his antique cars, his garden for which he often worked in, and music, in which he played the harmonica, trombone and tuba.
He is survived by his faith-filled wife Georgia (Planas) Silva of Kalaheo; his loving children, Jenny and her husband (Patrick Nakagawa Jr.) of Honolulu, Gabriel Silva of Seattle, Dorothy Silva and her husband (Jean-Paul Junod) of California, and Antone Silva of Honolulu; his grandchildren Owen, Kazuya and Sen Maria. He is also survived by his siblings, Antoinette (Abel) Martinez of California, Sandra Silva of Colorado, and Gregory Silva of New Mexico; father-in-law Gregorio (Aurora) Planas of Kaumakani; brother-in-laws, Leslie Planas, Gregory Planas, Jared Planas; sister-in-law Bridget Evans, also various nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, March 21, 2020, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo. Rosary from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. Visitation with the family from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Mass follows at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment to follow at the Holy Cross Catholic Church Cemetery. Family suggests causal attire.
