LIHU‘E – While the average price of regular grade gasoline dropped 7 cents nationwide per gallon, Kaua’i is still 0.28 cents more than the average price in Hawaii and cost $1.46 more than the national average gasoline price.
On Monday, the average price of Kaua’i’s regular grade gasoline was $3.89. According to AAA Gas Price, the state average gasoline regular grade was at $3.61. While the national average gasoline price is $2.43 for regular grade gasoline.
The cheapest regular grade gasoline can be found at Costco in Lihu‘e at $3.19. Which is 0.70 cents less than the average Kaua’i regular gasoline price.
Following Costco, Navy Exchange in Mana comes in second for lowest gasoline prices on Kaua’i with 0.49 cents cheaper than the average price on Kaua’i. Their price was set for $3.40 for regular grade gasoline.
The most expensive gasoline prices on Kaua’i, was Princeville’s North Shore General Store gas station. Their regular gasoline price was 10 cents more than the average Kaua‘i price and set for $3.99. Which is $1.56 more than the national average gasoline price set at $2.43.
Although Kaua’i’s gasoline cost more than the national average, a visitor from Seattle Mike Rorick says pricing follows national trends.
“I live in Seattle and prices there averages about $3.40. So the gas prices here are on track with everything else that goes up,” Rorick said.
Paradise 76 in Lihu‘e, which is currently charging $3.73 for regular unleaded. Employees said Monday they always try to be cheaper than the other two gas stations across the street.
Jess Calves, who has been working at Texaco in Lihu‘e since April 2019, was taking a break while observing traffic on Monday morning. She said she’s concerned about prices, especially in Hawaii.
“The prices are way to high. When people visit our island, I hear it all the time. They say that its expensive compared to other states. The current price has been then same for two weeks,” she said.

Kauai is not bad for cost of fuel compared to my recent trip to Calif. and we don’t drive great distances like in the mainland.
The chart shows that unless you are buying your gas from Costco you are getting ripped off at all other stations. It’s a guarantee that I save nearly $30 on every fill up.
Not expensive compared to California prices. This story is nonsense considering the logistics of being one of the most remote places on the planet.
