LIHU‘E — A Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation boys varsity soccer match between Kaua‘i and Kapa‘a high schools that was earlier in the season called because of weather conditions will kick off Monday starting at 6 p.m. at Vidinha Stadium.
The play was deemed necessary following the results of Saturday’s contest, where the Warriors, celebrating senior day, bested the Kaua‘i High team, 8-0, led by a pair of goals from La‘a Gonsalves.
Over at the Hanapepe Stadium, Waimea was a 3-0 winner over Island School, according to an Island School player who participated in the match, said Greg Gonsalves, the Kapa‘a High athletic director, who coordinates KIF soccer play.
Leading into the Saturday match, the Kapa‘a boys needed to beat Kaua‘i twice following the cancellation of a game scheduled against Waimea.
If Kapa‘a takes the Monday contest, they will be the KIF boys soccer champion. A Warrior loss will initiate the need to play a second rained-out contest between Waimea and Kapa‘a.
Earlier in the day, the Kapa‘a junior varsity boys took home a 3-0 win over the Red Raider JV.
