KOLOA — The Koloa Early School got a boost from the Rotary Club of Poipu Beach in having new playground equipment installed at its campus.
TKES Principal Mandie Gibson and board member Justin Franklin recently accepted a $1,000 grant from the club to help install the new equipment that will replace the 19-year-old play structure.
“The grant awarded to us by the Rotary Club will help offset the cost of installation,” said Gibson. “We are very thankful and appreciative of their support as we strive to continue to provide quality education and care to families of the South Shore and surrounding community.”
Gibson said the replacement equipment was acquired with proceeds from the school’s annual parent-led fundraiser and grant monies.
“The new playground replaces the one that was falling apart, corroded and rusted over,” Gibson said. “Our new play structure is on-island, and we are now moving on to the next step of installation with the help of the grant from the Rotary Club.”
A new shade covering for the play structure is planned, using some of the proceeds from the school’s annual Spring Soaker that will take place on April 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Anne S. Knudsen Park, also known as Koloa ball park.
“Proceeds from this annual fundraising fun day will also provide opportunities for school excursions and local guest speakers,” Gibson said.
