Jacqueline ‘Jai’ Roberts
Jacqueline “Jai” Roberts, 71, of Kapahi, peacefully passed away on Dec. 9, 2019 in her beloved Kapahi home. Born on June 15, 1948, in Ottawa, Canada, she was the daughter of John Arthur Roberts and Muriel Elizabeth Pettigrew.
She was preceded in death by parents John and Muriel Roberts and sister Deborah “Debbie” Elizabeth Roberts.
She is survived by daughter Julianne “Julie” Moye Mai, son-in-law Savino Torea Mai, grandchildren Hanavai Pua’ora, Maluhia Meherio, Temerahi “Tajee” Torea and Tehani Vahine Moonbow Mai of Kilauea, sister Virginia “Ginny” Lenore Blair of Martintown, Ontario, and brother Donald “Don” Kensington Roberts of Vancouver, Canada.
A celebration of life will be held at The Kauai Ranch, 6782 Hauaala Rd., Kealia, on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m., with visitation with service, sharing, music and potluck lunch to follow. The family suggests casual, colorful attire.
Antonio Almasan Cabanes
Antonio Almasan Cabanes, 88, passed away on Jan. 7, 2020, at Wilcox Medical Center. He was born on Jan. 17, 1931, in Pilar, Abra, Philippines.
He was a seed cutter and watchman at Olokele Sugar Company.
He was preceded in death by parents Simpilicio and Anastasia Cabanes and adoptive parents Mariano and Susana Camangyan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Barbara Cabanes, sons Simplicio Tito (Nami) Cabanes of Hanapepe and Billy Cabanes of Eleele, daughter Anabel (Moises) Lopez San Juan of Eleele, grandchildren Aisha and Akito Cabanes and Alex Lopez, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Lihue Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 3100 Akahi St. on Saturday, Jan. 18, with visitation from 2 to 3 p.m. and memorial services at 3 p.m., with refreshments to follow.
Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Paul Ray Matero
Paul Ray Matero, 69, of Kapaa, passed away on Dec. 26, 2019. He was born in Stockton, California, on July 12, 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a long-time helicopter pilot.
He was preceded in death by parents Wilburt and Kay Matero, son Daniel Matero, and brothers Robert and Steven Matero.
He is survived by wife Donna Dublin, son Geoff (Britteny) Matero, daughters Amy (Mike) Ferreira, Katy Matero and Emily Matero, sister Susan Matero and six grandchildren.
