LIHUE — Island School’s Haven Sadler struck first Saturday during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation soccer matches at the Island School field.
Waimea regrouped and Jenessa Freitas found the net in traffic to knot the contest 1-1 for the final score in the girls’ matchup.
Island School coach Colby Ayonon was happy with the stalemate, considering it a morale victory.
“This was our first season goal,” Ayonon said. “We’ve been focusing on change, and so far, it looks good. Coach Beau Acoba has been working every practice with Sophie Carswell, our goalkeeper, and in the long run, she’s going to be really good.”
The Voyager and Menehune men finished their matchup in a 1-1 tie, the Voyagers getting its goal from Manoa Knight, and Waimea’s Kody Tanaka-Lehano finding the net for the Menehune.
Over at Vidinha Stadium where Kapaa hosted Kauai High School, the unofficial results saw the junior varsity Red Raider girls notch its second win, 1-0 over Kapaa to improve to 2-2 on the season and tying the JV Warrior girls in the standings.
Kapaa JV boys shut down the JV Raider boys, 3-0.
On the varsity girls’ field, Tavehi Dubocage found the net in the first half to give the Lady Warriors a 1-0 bulge that was answered by Kauai’s Eryka Napoleon in the 66th minute to prevent a shutout. Both teams battled to a 1-1 deadlock.
The boys’ contest that wrapped up the day at Vidinha provided the most fireworks of the day with Anthony Durocher netting two goals, the first in the 37th minute, and the second in the 49th minute, to lead Kapaa to a 6-1 edge over the Kauai High School boys who got a net from Mosiah Bautista in the second half, preventing a shutout.
Joining Durocher, Kapaa also netted goals from Keanu Brown in the 33rd minute, Kawai Beeby found his net in the 14th minute, Kaulia Shiroma netted his goal in the 69th minute, and Hayden Guest scored in the 30th minute.
According to the KIF schedule, Kapaa will next host Island School on Tuesday afternoon at Vidinha Stadium with the varsity girls launching from 5 p.m. The varsity boys are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
Kauai High School will host Waimea on Wednesday at Vidinha Stadium with the varsity girls starting at 5 p.m. and the varsity boys following at 7 p.m.
