LIHUE — Kauai High School’s Ehia Jim and Ricky Malu Ralston each pocketed a dozen points to lead a 53-28 victory over Island School, Tuesday night during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation boys basketball game contested at the Kauai High School gym.
Following a slow start where Island School held a point deficit in the opening quarter, Kauai worked a three-ball from Jaron Ruiz-Ancatilado for the point advantage.
The opening trey set the stage for the second quarter when the Raiders marked four bombs from outside the arc toward its 22-point production that saw Kauai bank a 31-14 lead at the break.
Luke Hunadi followed the Kauai point leaders with nine marks, including a three-ball in the second quarter. Micah Agtunong and Dillon St. Clair each added five points to the Raider victory, Agtunong pocketing a trey in the second quarter. Ian Asuncion and Marique Manera also added treys to the second-quarter barrage of long balls.
Island School point guard Ethan Inanod topped the Voyager scoring on 11 points with John Bancroft adding 10 points, nine marks coming from his trio of distance bombs. Josh Dobashi finished with five points and a digit from Reed Brown accounted for the showing.
No scores were available from the Kapaa at Waimea high school matchup.
Kauai High School next hosts Waimea, Saturday with the junior varsity game tipping off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity match to close off the KIF first round. Island School will travel to the Bernice Hundley Gym to face the Warriors in a single match tipping off at 7 p.m.
