POIPU — Merriman’s Kauai presented the Kauai United Way with an award amounting to $2,350 Monday.
The presentation represents proceeds from a special Merriman’s 10th anniversary dinner hosted at the Merriman’s Fish House, Kauai on Dec. 14 prepared by Chef Mark Arriola who was joined by Chef Mark Noguchi.
“This was a great excuse to get out for a fun evening of superb dining from a complete menu, including wine, that was specially crafted,” said Scott Giarman, the Kauai United Way executive director. “All of the net proceeds from this complete dinner will benefit the crucial social service work of Kauai’s (KUW) Partner Agencies that make life on our island better for us all.”
The Merriman’s contribution goes toward the Kauai United Way 2019 campaign that has a goal of $625,000 and helps more than 80 individual social service programs supported by the 25 Partner Agencies. The programs and services impact more than 35,000 people on Kauai, annually.
“Kauai United Way vets and funds fine organizations that we get to know very well, and whose work we believe in,” Giarman said. “In all, these Partner Agencies provide services here on our island that re-build lives, prevent problems before they happen, and makes life better for every single one of us here on Kauai.”
Giarman said many people hold their charitable giving to the end of the year.
“If you’re one of them, this is a reminder that it’s now time,” Giarman said.
Donations can be done securely at Kauaiunitedway.org, by calling 245-2043, or mailing a check to Kauai United Way, 4374 Kukui Grove Street, Lihue, HI 96766.
“As a suggestion, write and date your check before January and it will count toward the year 2019,” Giarman said.
