LIHUE — The Zonta Club of Kauai, The Garden Island newspaper and the collaboration of nearly 10 agencies made Christmas brighter through the efforts of the community.
“With the help of the nine agencies providing us with their stories of families and individuals that could use our help this holiday season, we were able to provide 749 keiki and kupuna with a brighter Christmas through the support of our community and friends of Kauai,” said Darrellynn Lemke, the Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation Chair. “The Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation thanks everyone that has generously donated to The Garden Island/Zonta Club Christmas Fund.”
Lemke said the community came through and helped the Zonta Club surpass a $5,000 donor match challenge.
“We have received $30,570 in donations to the Christmas Fund,” Lemke said. “That includes the $5,000 donor match through the Hawaii Community Foundation. This is what makes it possible for the Zonta Club and its nine agency partners to make Christmas shine brighter for those who could use the help.”
The Zonta Club of Kauai and TGI have teamed up for more than 25 years to raise funds for people in need.
TGI spreads the word with daily front page stories starting after Thanksgiving and Zonta members take care of the rest.
Merry Christmas to everyone!
