LIHUE — Under a new provision declared by Kauai Police Chief Todd G. Raybuck, officers and sergeants on patrol, unless otherwise specified and under special authorized circumstances, are now required to keep their vehicle’s stationary blue cruise lights on at all times.
Patrol officers and sergeants are already required to keep their lights on at night, but now they must have them on while traveling roads during the day. The new mandate was created for a variety of reasons, including encouraging drivers to remain vigilant and abide by traffic laws.
“We wanted to bring awareness to police presence on our roadways to remind drivers to be mindful of their speed and driving habits,” Raybuck said. “The purpose is also to increase visibility of an officer’s presence to deter crime and create a greater sense of community safety.”
Thanks, KPD, the blue lights are great! It appears as a friendly reminder that the police are available to assist when needed. I hope other municipalities follow our lead!
JoyceThe new order, by chief Todd G. Raebuck, that the blue lights on all police cars should be kept on at all times, day or night, is a wonderful idea. I feel sure that upon seeing the lights, drivers will slow down to the posted speed limit. Thank you Chief Raebuck for what should help to slow those led footed drivers down.
50-years a Kaua’i resident and five police chiefs that made blue lights ON 24-7 Mandatory, has failed along with an entire forty pages of peeps in our hood playing like the stolen mailbox hui! Not Only on Kauai, the entire fakeness of incompetent leaders that get voted or appointed, like Biden’s son!
SAY NO TO DRUGS!!!
Today, I did see one “unmarked” vehicle with no lights on (there was a light bar on the roof).
Incoherent babbling at its best!!! ” This is your brain, this is your brain on drugs…Any questions??? “
Doesn’t anyone see how ultimately all this does is create an advanced warning system for drunk drivers and criminals. This will not prevent any crimes, only allow for criminals to better avoid the police. Who doesn’t feel safe on Kauai? Who really believes the perceived presence of more police will actually prevent crime. How about more undercover police and more drunk driving checkpoints. That will make our roads safer. Giving drunks advanced warning to slow down and drive straight only makes it easier to break the law and get away with it.
