About 500 people enjoyed an annual breakfast fundraiser on Sunday by Chiefess Kamakahele Middle School’s advanced media class.
“These fundraisers are the combined effort of many, many people. A lot of hands have to come together to make this happen and we are incredibly fortunate to have the support of our students, parents, administration, school, and community each year,” said Kevin Matsunaga, CKTV’s media teacher.
CKTV students greeted family and friends at the door and helped ohana with take-outs and spreading some Christmas cheer.
The miso soup was a nice addition to the breakfast platter, which included chopped fruit, ham, Portuguese sausage, and rice.
Matsunaga said they sold about 1,500 tickets at $10 each.
The CKMS band, under the direction of band director Sarah Tochiki, serenaded the crowd with upbeat Christmas arrangements, and Wilcox Elementary’s creative arts students had the crowd going with Mariah Carey’s classic Christmas song: “All I want for Christmas.”
The funds collected will go toward their spring Washington, D.C., trip for a Student Television Network convention and a possible side trip to New York.
