Kapaa High School girls’ wrestler Jolette Miner-Ho placed third in the 52nd-annual Ivey Maui Invitational two-day tournament Saturday in Maui.
Miner-Ho defeated Waianae High School wrestler Leina Balancio-Sadamaru by fall, winning the match in 2 minutes, 32 seconds.
Warriors’ teammate Olivia Kelekoma (138) placed fifth in the 138-pound female bracket.
Kelekoma, who scored 11 team points for the Warriors, defeated Lania High School’s Talia Agliam by fall in the quarterfinals in 52 seconds.
Kelekoma lost the semifinal match to Jahnea Miguel from Baldwin High School, who defeated Kelekoma by fall in 1 minute, 27 seconds.
Other Kapaa High School wrestlers that shined in the preseason tournament include Joshweigh Aguinaldo, who finished sixth in the 220-pound bracket.
Red Raiders excel in preseason tourney
Kauai High School Ganen Silva-Cardenas finished fourth in the boys’ 170-pound bracket, and he contributed 13 team points to the Red Raiders.
Silva-Cardenas won by fall over Lahainaluna High School’s Kealii Tateyama-Magana. The match lasted 1 minute, 35 seconds.
Mason Stoll-Tolentino finished fourth in the 126-pound bracket and contributed 15 team points.
Tolentino won four consecutive consolation bracket matches before falling in the third-place game to Molokai High School’s Chaves Petronave.
Other Kauai High School kids that excelled included Gregory Manintin (160), who finished sixth, and girls’ wrestler Alana Takata (155), who placed fifth.
