Garden Island Gymnastics coach Karla Villanueva-Bernal said she was pleased with the performance of her 14 competitors in the Hawaii State Championships Saturday and Sunday at Hanalani School in Mililani, Oahu.
“We rocked it,” Villanueva-Bernal said. “We had many girls perform well, and there wasn’t one that stood out. We are beyond proud.”
Nayah Cornel captured three medals at the level-3 competition. She captured silver on vault, silver on balance beam, and a bronze medal for the all-around performance.
Cornel scored a 9.6 on the vault, and she scored a 9.0 on balance beam and a 35.550 in the all-around game.
Elsie Frazier captured a bronze medal on vault, scoring a 9.450.
Other competitors at level-3 that medaled included Ashlyn Worley, who won bronze on uneven bars, scoring an 8.650. Worley also finished with two bronze medals in balance beam and floor competitions.
She finished with a score of 8.750 on the balance beam and finished with a score of 8.450 in the floor.
At level 4, Graciella Rhinelander won gold on balance beam tallying a score of 9.250, while Audrey Kaona-Sarsona won a silver medal on vault with a score of 9.075. Kassy Ell won silver on vault with a score of 8.925.
Kailar Aguiar won bronze on vault with an 8.250, Lexi Telles won bronze on balance beam with an 8.875.
At level 5, Berkley Feutz won bronze on the uneven bars with a score of 8.050. Feutz won bronze with a score of 9.150, silver on the floor with an 8.475, and a bronze on all-around with a score of 34.275.
