LIHUE — Lacey Kanahele, a staff from the Luau Kalamaku at Kilohana, said everyone deserves dinner.
The comment sobered the banter taking place Monday as chefs and staff of Luau Kalamaku shredded turkeys for the Salvation Army’s community luncheon scheduled Wednesday at Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall.
“Shredding makes it easier to eat,” said Chef Brenda Gebauer. “We have people working on white meat, and another group on dark meat.”
The annual luncheon is open to everyone from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
“This is all possible because of organizations like the Luau Kalamaku at Kilohana, the culinary arts department at the Kauai Community College, and Mark’s Place and Contemporary Flavors Catering,” said Capt. Bill Simon of the Salvation Army, Lihue Corps.
Simon added that other contributions to the luncheon include table mats contributed by the King Kaumuali‘i Elementary School, the Leo Club from Kauai High School helping with the table set up and serving.
“We have seen every walk of life come and help whether it’s family, businesses, private companies, government agencies, and non-government agencies,” Simon said. “We call come together and help make the event successful. For that, I want to say ‘thank you’ on behalf of the Salvation Army.”
