Gerard Kanani Hulama Sr.
Gerard Kanani Hulama Sr.
Gerard Kanani Hulama Sr. passed away in Lihue on Oct. 11, 2019, at the age of 66. He was born on Jan. 17, 1953, in Hilo, Hawaii. He was a carpenter.
He is preceded in death by father Henry Konakakino Hulama Sr., mother Annie Laurie Hulama, brother Henry Konakakino Hulama Jr., nephews Kalani Hulama and Stanford Hula Jr., and grandson Brayden Hulama.
He is survived by wife Nova Dale Vea Hulama, sons Gerard K. Hulama Jr. of Kauai, Sammy Morrentino (hanai son) of Kauai, daughters Gerri-Lu (Shane) Waikiki-Madeyski of the Big Island, Cynthia Hulama of Kauai, Raynette (Keith) Yamamoto of Kauai, Tasha (Warren) Tavares (daughter-in-law) of Kauai, 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, brothers Mike (Kaoi) Hulama of Oahu, Jesse (Debbie) Hulama Sr. of the Big Island, Stanford (Linda) Hulama Sr. of the Big Island, sisters Rowena (Ronald Silva) of the Big Island, Joanne Hula of the Big Island and Faye Williams of the Big Island, and by numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are Saturday, Nov. 23, at Old Koloa Church, 3269 Poipu Rd., with visitation from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and a celebration of life at 10:30 a.m.
The family suggests casual attire.

Eusebio Teirra Gasmen
Eusebio Teirra Gasmen, 90, of Kapaa, passed away at home on Oct. 19, 2019. He was born in Ilocos Sur, Philippines, on April 17, 1929, and retired as an irrigator with Lihue Plantation Company.
He was preceded in death by wife Francisca Gasmen, sons Constante and Mario Gasmen, and eight siblings.
He is survived by children Rogelio (Leonida) Gasmen, Rudolfo (Regina) Gasmen, Samuel (Vangie) Gasmen, Rizalde (Marilou) Gasmen, Evelyn (Ricky) Cunanan and Kimo (Emily) Gasmen, all of Oahu, and Lisa Gasmen of Kauai, 22 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, brother Baltazar Gasmen, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23, at St. Catherine Church, with viewing from 8 a.m., and rosary and Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Kealia Cemetery.
Kauai Memorial Gardens &Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mary Anne Morishige
Mary Anne Morishige passed away on Oct. 12, 2019. She was 74 years old. She was born on Jan. 27, 1945, in Lihue.
She was preceded in death by father Masaharu, mother Hisayo Morishige, and brothers Stanley and Terry Morishige.
She is survived by sister Jean Muramoto (William, deceased) of Virginia and brother Gregg (Kathy) Morishige of Lihue, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Family requests no koden (monetary gifts).
Joni Ho‘okano
Joni Ho‘okano passed away on Nov. 6, 2019, at the Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waimea.
She was born on June 19, 1955, in Waimea.
She was preceded in death by parents Ohu and Eliza Ho‘okano, and sisters Nani Ho‘okano, U‘i Ho‘okano, Lehua Kona, and Kiki Ho‘okano.
She is survived by son Alfred (Jackie) Ho‘okano, brothers Renfred (Michelle) Ho‘okano, Lionel Ho‘okano, Norman (Noe) Ho‘okano and Dean (Debbie) Ho‘okano, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be held on Sunday, Nov. 24, at Ohu and Eliza’s hale at 9832 Pule Rd., Waimea Valley, with visitation at 10:30 a.m. and a celebration of life to be held at 11:15 a.m.
Betty K. Yamamoto
Betty K. Yamamoto, 92, formerly of Lihue, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter in San Jose, California, on Aug. 29, 2019. She was born in Koloa on April 7, 1927, and retired as a clerk typist for the State of Hawaii.
She was preceded in death by parents Seiroku and Rii Ebata, husband Kazuo Yamamoto, and siblings Shizuko Okuda, Burt Ebata, Kii Honda, Ted Ebata and Asao Ebata.
She is survived by daughters Gay (Wayne) Imaino and Karen (Eric) Kubota, son Keith (Stacey) Yamamoto, three grandchildren, sisters Kimi Odo and Dale Yamanaka, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, Nov. 25, at Lihue Christian Church, with visitation at 4 p.m. followed by service at 5 p.m. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
Edward Haruo Tada
Edward Haruo Tada passed away in Lihue on Oct. 10, 2019, at the age of 90. He was born on Oct. 9, 1929, in Kapaa. He was a painting contractor with Tada Painting.
He was preceded in death by parents Masato and Natsuyo Tada, and wife Natsuko Y. Tada.
He is survived by sons Glenn (Karyn) Tada of Hilo and Leslie Tada of Kapaa, daughters Deborah (Randy Wong) Tada of Honolulu and Susan (Loran) Wilson of Honolulu, grandchildren Roslyn Carvalho, Aaron Tada, Kendall Tada, Daniel Tada and Lindsey Wilson, great-grandchild Charis Carvalho, sister Bernice Harada of Honolulu, and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23, at Kapaa Hongwanji Mission, with visitation at 2 p.m. and service at 3 p.m.
The family suggests casual attire.

Amor Antolin Sagucio
Amor Antolin Sagucio of Kalaheo passed away on Oct. 26, 2019, at the age of 67, at his home.
He was born in the Philippines.
He was a crane operator at McBryde Sugar Company.
He is survived by wife Erlinda Sagucio of Kalaheo, parents Francisco and Virginia Sagucio of Lanao, Bangui, Philippines, sons Jerry (Jennifer) Sagucio and Amor (Marylou Bartolome) Sagucio, all of Kalaheo, daughter Ronalyn (Juan Carlos) Rosales of Lihue, brothers Constante (Clemencia) Sagucio of Lanao, Bangui, Philippines, Daniel (Dailyn) Sagucio of Hanapepe, Alex (Anabella) Sagucio of Kilauea and Walden (Ofelia) Sagucio of Honolulu, sister Rowena (Rene) Serrano of Lanao, Bangui, Philippines, granddaughters Joydan Sagucio and Taelor-Syara Leina‘ala Telian Sagucio, and grandsons Trevyn Amor-La‘akea Sagucio and Isaac Uziel Rosales, and granddaughter Alexis Charise Ka‘iulani Bartolome.
Friends and family may visit on Friday, Nov. 22, at St. Raphael Church from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at St. Raphael Cemetery.

Bryan Kazumi Miyake

It is with profound and deep sorrow and sadness that the Miyake family announces the untimely death of beloved brother Bryan Miyake on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019.
He is survived by Steven S. Miyake of Berkeley, California, and twins Lynne Miyake and Michael Miyake of Los Angeles. He was born on Sept. 5, 1955, in Honolulu, then moved at an early age to Los Angeles. After graduating from high school, he moved back to Kauai in 1973 to surf.
Following a career at Lihue Airport as a porter, he followed his dream and launched his own tax-preparation and bookkeeping company, Makena Miyake, with Roxanne Makena.
Through his hard work, dedication, integrity and honesty he grew his business to serve the tax and bookkeeping needs of thousands of clients.
Growing up on Kauai, he touched and made a difference in the lives of a multitude of people in the community. His charisma, sense of humor, down-to-earth demeanor and warmth affected and moved everyone he met. He built a good, decent life, and surrounded himself with good, decent people.
The Kauai community and the world have lost a good man. He will be missed. He disdained funerals, mourning and eulogies, and preferred to have a grand party in his memory.
To honor his memory, the Miyake family invites his friends and family to a celebration of life on Saturday, Nov. 30, beginning with the scattering of ashes at Poipu Beach Park at noon. Those who wish to paddle out can call Tom Yomen at 482-0453 to coordinate the event.
Those who do not wish to paddle out can still participate in the scattering of ashes with Komohana Charter, graciously donated by Koa Fuller, at the Kukuiula Small Boat Harbor. The limit is seven people. Please contact Koa to reserve a space, 652-8293.
The party will begin at 2 p.m. at Grove Farms, next to the Hookipa Café at Puakea Golf Course, 4150 Nuhou St., Lihue. The event will be catered. Casual kine dress OK. Those who attended the earlier scattering ceremony in Waimea are more then welcome to these events as well.
