LIHUE — The University of Hawaii Sea Grant program has released the fourth edition of the “Homeowner’s Handbook to Prepare for Natural Hazards,” with new ideas on evacuation planning and retrofit options for homeowners.
The handbook is specifically designed for Hawaii homeowners, and offers suggestions on preparation and response options for things like hurricanes and flooding, volcano and fires, sea-level rise and flooding.
The 172-page document provides information on all the impacts of natural disasters on the home, and also encourages communities to work together to prepare and respond to natural disasters. And it contains photos taken by The Garden Island’s own Dennis Fujimoto.
The handbook is available online, and will soon be available in print through Kauai’s Sea Grant Coastal Land Use Extension Agent, Ruby Pap. For more information, contact Pap, 241-4183.
