KAPAA — Brig. Gen. Bruce Olivera is the grand marshal of the Veterans Day Parade Saturday in Kapaa.
The theme of the parade is “Time Was Served, Time to Honor.” It begins at 9:30 a.m. and goes from Makaha Road across from All Saints Episcopal Church, through downtown Kapaa, and ends at Kapaa Beach Park.
Side streets and roads along the parade route will be closed to traffic starting at 9.
The program will include an opening welcome by Mary Kay Hertog, commander, Kauai Veterans Council, as well as a message from Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami.
Kapaa Business Association sponsors the parade along with the Kauai Veterans Council.
Olivera enlisted in the Hawaii Army National Guard on Aug. 1, 1978, and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in June 1980.
He has served in command and staff positions in the 29th Infantry Brigade and the 25th Infantry Division.
Following the parade, a short program will feature entertainment by the Kapaa Middle School Choir and Ukulele Band under the direction of Mary Lardizabal, and Hula Halau Tamatea Nui O’ Kauai with kumu Wailana Dasalia.
A drawing for a 2019 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab pickup as well as other prizes culminates the gathering at Kapaa Beach Park.
