Because a pageant wasn’t held on Kauai this year — and with blessings from state pageant director Alicia Michioka — Manuel and Arruda were given the opportunity to retain their titles. They will be competing for the 2020 Miss Hawaii USA and Miss Hawaii Teen USA state tiles on Nov. 10 at the Hawaii Convention Center in Waikiki.
The Miss Kauai USA Organization will be hosting a send-off celebration for Manuel and Arruda on Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Ho‘okipa Cafe at Puakea Golf Club. It will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. with pupus and entertainment.
Manuel, 27, attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa and the University of Hawaii at Hilo, studying nursing and electrical engineering. She returned to Kauai and works for Nathan Wood General Contractor.
Arruda is a senior at Island School where she holds a 4.0 GPA. She plays volleyball, swims and runs. She is passionate about helping families whose loved ones have been diagnosed with autism.
