Spongebob was about the only one missing at the Nawiliwili Yacht Clubs Halloween race, where even Popeye (could he have been Squidworth in disguise?) and Olive Oil showed up at the mole area parking lot to watch the Bumblebees take on the Baby Shark and other cast of characters…even Mike Curtis made it on time after doing a whole day of senior softball.

Kudos to Dillon Ancheta, Kauai High School alumnus, who did a thing with the audience, having them search for Walmart receipts, a $2 bill, business cards, and a whole lot more during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation cheerleading competition, where Kauai Athletic Director Keli‘i Morgado was balancing between the competition and the final night of Kauai Interscholastic Federation bowling (we got states coming here!) Thursday, and didn’t Dillon know Marissa Purcel was a cheerleader when she was at Kauai High School? Now, who wins? Keahi Tucker? Ashley Nagaoka? Ancheta?
Kudos to Tiffany Dick and the Aloha Dance Studio on doing a great job with Freaky Fridays for the entire month of October as a fundraiser to send her zombies to off-island cheer competitions, camps and workshops…OK, Halloween is coming up Thursday, and Melissa McFerrin-Warrack said people can register their cars for the Trunk or Treat (it’s from 5 to 7 p.m.) through the Kukui Grove Center website.
And don’t forget the Lihue Public Library Halloween Party with Victoria Lam after the Halloween Yoga, starting at 10:30 a.m. And, just down the road, the Wilcox Medical Center is hosting its annual Halloween Keiki Parade, starting at noon.
For the late-night crowd, Jim Guerber and Larry Feinstein at the Kauai Beer Company — it’s also Truck Stop Thursday! — is hosting its costume contest with judging to start at 7 p.m.
