KAPAA — Ryder Bolocan’s foot was the difference for the Hanapepe Colts Mighty Mites who took a 14-12 edge over the Koloa Rams, Sunday during the Kauai Pop Warner Football League games played at the Bryan Baptiste Memorial Sports Park in Kapaa.
Chayden “Kea” Kai opened the fireworks early, taking a pass interception 90 yards for Koloa’s score that was answered by the Colts in the second quarter when Kaiea Naumu found the end zone at the tail of a one-yard charge. Bolocan’s Point After Touchdown kick gave the Colts its 8-6 bulge.
Hanapepe scored again in the third quarter when Camden Barba pulled in a 36-yard scoring pass that was answered in the fourth frame when Koloa’s Makoa Miguel found open ground on a 30-yard touchdown run for the 14-12 final.
The Colts continued its winning ways in the PeeWee division contest by taking a 14-6 win over the Koloa Rams when Hanapepe Colts’ Shayden Dela Cruz opened the scorebooks with a 65-yard runback of a pass interception and did the PAT kick honors for the early 8-0 lead.
Colts quarterback Kailen Henderson built on the bulge by hitting Micah Baniaga on a 35-yard scoring pass for the 14-0 lead at the break.
Kamun Santiago broke the 0-0 halftime stalemate in the third quarter by finding the end zone at the end of a 54-yard run, Issac Ulanday doing the PAT kick for the 8-0 go-ahead. Nalu Hookano and Nohili Ragragola each pulled in 9-yard scoring passes in the third and fourth quarters, respectively. Ulanday graced each touchdown with PAT kicks for the 28-0 final.
Noah Kanahele scored on a 25-yard touchdown run and Shayne Cabral did the PAT kick to give the Kekaha Kekaha Titans PeeWee divion saw Ikaika Miyashiro score twice, on 8- and 9-yard runs, respectively, to lead the Titans to a 33-0 shutout over the Kapaa Eagles in the day’s finale.
Brennan Fernandez opened the Titans’ scoring on a 1-yard charge in the first frame that was upped in the second quarter by Miyashiro’s first TD for the 12-0 bulge at the half.
Austin Kinimaka-Aranio opened the second half scoring with a 1-yard score in the third frame with Fernandez doing the PAT honor, and the Titans wrapped up the win with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, the first being Miyashiro’s 9-yard score with Pihana Durant running in the PAT.
Durante iced the Kekaha victory with 6:14 showing in regulation when he pushed four yards for the score and followed that with his PAT run for the 33-0 shutout.
The KPWFL football fields will be bare, Sunday when the players converge at the Kauai High School gym for the 2019 KPWFL Regional Cheer Competition.
