LIHUE The Wilcox Health Foundation welcomed Tom Canute of First Hawaiian Bank and the $50,000 contribution he brought to the board and Betty Bell, an early leader at Wilcox Medical Center and honorary chair of a fundraising campaign to help pay for emergency department updates and expanded trauma services.
LIHUE — The Wilcox Health Foundation welcomed Tom Canute of First Hawaiian Bank and the $50,000 contribution he brought to the board and Betty Bell, an early leader at Wilcox Medical Center and honorary chair of a fundraising campaign to help pay for emergency department updates and expanded trauma services.
Wilcox Medical Center launched the Emergency Department fundraising campaign at its 80th anniversary celebration earlier this year. The goal of the campaign is to raise $4.9 million.
Some of the renovation improvements will include two dedicated trauma resuscitation suites, conversion of curtained rooms to private rooms, creation of specialty rooms for behavioral health, pediatrics, OB-GYN, and infectious control.
The First Hawaiian Bank contribution joins the growing number of contributors who have gifted nearly $1 million to the campaign, including the Gather Federal Credit Union who made the first donation to launch the campaign.
“When we talk about Wilcox Medical Center, we emphasize how our emergency and trauma care are a lifeline for the Kauai community,” said Jen Chahanovich, president and chief executive officer of Wilcox Medical Center and chief executive officer of Kauai Medical Clinic. “We are so thankful for this support of our medical center.”
Bell was honored as chair of the fundraising campaign because of her contributions to Wilcox throughout the years. In 1968, she introduced an innovative system that improved the hospital’s method for distributing medications. The system was later recognized across the country and used as a guide by other Hawaii hospitals.
