LIHUE — The Kauai High School boys and the Waimea High School girls posted the week’s highest point totals during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation air riflery matches contested Wednesday afternoon at the Kapaa High School campus and at the Island School range, the Island School facility being chosen at the last-minute because Waimea needed the Clem Gomes Gym to host the girls volleyball matches.
Kauai High School’s Kierstyn Bukoski continues to dominate the female sharpshooters, this week posting a 254 (92 prone, 78 standing, and 84 kneeling) to lead the Red Raider ladies to a 1,227 to 1,108 victory over Kapaa at the Kapaa High School range where Sophia Ibanez posted high-point honors for the Warriors at 251 (91-75-85) points, just three digits shy of Bukoski’s performance.
Bukoski’s totals, however, was No. 2 to Waimea’s first-year shooter Jenna Antolin who finished with 261 (87-81-93) points led the Menehune wahine to a 1,235 to 866 victory over the Island School girls fielded four women for its team led by Paulina Do (93-67-69-229).
On the boys’ range, Michael Patricio had high point honors at 263 (90-87-86) points to lead the Kauai boys to a 1,261 to 1,087 win over the Warriors in Kapaa. Kyler Napolean topped the Kapaa boys’ shooting on 238 (85-59-94) points. Patricio’s point totals were the highest marked by the boys’ marksmen for the week.
Kylan Takakusagi took the point for the Menehune men with 255 (92-73-90) points to lead the Waimea boys to a 1,234 to 1,170 win over the Island School guys who had Ka‘ohu Ranis (92-80-81-253) holding the lead just two points behind Takakusagi.
With just one more match scheduled for Tuesday, Kauai High School will travel to the Clem Gomes Gym to meet up with the Menehune while Kapaa comes to the Island School range in Puhi. The Kapaa match is penciled in to start at 3 p.m. while the Waimea matches starts at 5 p.m.
