HANAPEPE — Keola Naka‘ahiki of the Hanapepe Colts Flag scored four touchdowns to lead the Colts to a 40-12 win over the Kapaa Eagles Saturday during the Kauai Pop Warner Football League games that were contested under hot sunny skies at Hanapepe Stadium.
Following Naka‘ahiki’s opening score, a 35-yard run, and a successful point-after by Koa Wong, the Eagles took wing when Ideen Sarding pulled in a three-yard pass. The PAT came up empty for the 8-6 Hanapepe bulge.
Hanapepe built on the two-point advantage, adding three more touchdowns by Naka‘ahiki — runs of nine yards, 33 yards, and 40 yards — and got help from Wong who pulled in a 45-yard scoring pass, and Isiah Puni scoring two touchdowns on runs of 10 and 11 yards, respectively before the Eagles closed the books on a three-yard scoring reception from Kalaeua Sawada.
The sole Flag division contest opened up the series pitting the Kekaha Titans Mighty Mites against the Kapaa Eagles, and the Kekaha Titans PeeWee matching up against the Kapaa Eagles. The afternoon series featured the Lihue Raiders Mighty Mites going up against the Koloa Rams followed by the Lihue Raiders PeeWee suiting up against the Koloa Rams.
Kekaha Titans split its morning series after dropping the Mighty Mite matchup to the Eagles, 14-6, before coming back with a 25-6 win over Kapaa.
Hahai Akeo opened the books for Kekaha in the Mighty Mite game, breaking out for a 41-yard scoring run with 2:33 showing in the first quarter. He got a point-after run from Keanu Kua for the 7-0 bulge that was answered by the Eagles in the second and third periods when Alaka‘i Mundon found the end zone on runs of 35 and 13 yards, respectively. Micah Doctolero booted the PAT for the 14-7 comeback win.
During the PeeWee division matchup, Kapaa answered a 25-0 deficit at the break to prevent a shutout when Eagles’ Jaydon Vidinha pulled in a 74-yard scoring strike with 2:44 showing in the third period.
The Titans’ Ikaika Miyashiro found the end zone on runs of eight yards, and 27 yards, and ran in a point-after to give Kekaha its 12-0 margin at the end of the first quarter.
Kekaha PeeWee continued its roll in the second quarter when Brennan Fernandez found the end zone on a 12-yard touchdown, and Pihana Durant bulled for a yard to give the Titans its 25-0 halftime lead. There was no scoring in the final period.
The Lihue Raiders split its afternoon series, shutting down the Koloa Rams 37-0 in the Mighty Mite division contest, and dropping a 6-0 matchup in the PeeWee division after Koloa’s Zayden Asuncion returned a Raider punt 29 yards to the end zone with 2:21 showing in the half.
Lihue’s Takazee Thomas ran for three touchdowns and pulled in a Chase Kawakami pass for touchdown to lead the Raider Mighty Mites to its 37-0 win.
Thomas broke out for touchdowns of 25 yards and 30 yards in the first quarter before Jahsiah Mawae-Cabinatan crossed the plane on a three-yard run to give the Mighty Mite Raiders a 24-0 lead at the break.
Following a Thomas score in the third quarter, a pass play from quarterback Kawakami to Thomas for 34 yards, Lihue came back with two touchdowns by Keith Haraguchi in the fourth quarter, both scores appearing in close quarters near the end zone.
