The state Department of Transportation said that night work, originally scheduled on Kuhio Highway at the Waikoko bridge in Hanalei Monday through Thursday, Sept. 23-26, has been canceled due to shearwater fledging season.
The DOT is reviewing options to work during the day around fledging season, September to December each year. A closure of Waikoko bridge is needed for bridge deck overlay work and below-deck spall repairs.
The ongoing, single-lane closure on Kuhio Highway at mile marker 1 (the hill above Hanalei bridge) for upper-slope stabilization continues. The stabilization work runs 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
