Gladys Lorraine Oshita
Gladys Lorraine Oshita passed way on Aug. 4, 2019, at the age of 84.
She was born on Oct. 25, 1934 in Kealia, and was a retired sales manager.
She wasa preceded in death by parents Jacintho Duarte Sr. and Odelia Duarte, husband James Oshita, sisters Eleanor Almeida and Katherine Summers, and brother Edwin “Dosha” Duarte.
She is survived by son Randy (Susan) Oshita of Anahola and daughter Denise Oshita-Philips of California, grandchildren Keith (Ehu Pia) Oshita, Kierstyn (Jimmy Guerrero) Oshita, Ray Yamasaki and Jade Philips, great-grandchildren Rider-Lei, Amber, Haylee, Braydan and Cheydan, brothers Raymond Duarte and Jacintho “Junie” (Carol) Duarte, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may visit on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019 8 to 9:30 a.m. at St. Catherine Church in Kapaa. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Catherine Cemetery in Kealia.
Leonora Saulibio
Leonora Saulibio, 92, of Lihue, passed away at home on Aug. 17, 2019. She was born in Sprecklesville, Maui, on July 3, 1927, and retired as an accounting clerk with Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by husband Leon “Panta” Saulibio, son Michael Saulibio, and parents Tranquilino and Faustina Romua.
She is survived by daughter Joanna Lynn (Albert Jr.) Kaui, grandchildren Michael David (Sophia Hsu) Saulibio, Tara (Steven Dunn) Saulibio, Ambrosia Kamakana (Matt Whitrock) Kaui and Ka‘ike Isaiah Kaui, great-grandchildren Jada Dunn, Aiden Saulibio, Ever Saulibio and Aliya Saulibio, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14, at Aloha Church, with viewing from 9 a.m. and services celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Mercedes ‘Mercy’ Efhan
Mercedes “Mercy” Efhan, 82, of Kapaa, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 6, 2019. She was born on Oahu on Jan. 6, 1937, and was a dedicated homemaker.
Her love for bowling and fishing came second to her love for her ohana. She was nurturing and caring to everyone that came into her life.
She was preceded in death by husband Sancho Efhan, granddaughter Shawnte Keala Efhan Jaquias, great-grandson Kamahao Henderson, parents Simeona and Gregorio Datanagan, and siblings Larry Datanagan and Connie Villaro.
She is survived by daughters Bernie (Harlan) Nakae of Kapaa, Suzie Efhan of Lihue, Sherrie Efhan of Kapaa, Val Yadao of Hanamaulu and Lulu (Wilbert) Cummings of Puhi, sons Teo Efhan of Anahola and Aaron (Janis) Efhan of Lihue, grandchildren, Kaipo (Tivoli) Jaquias, Jodelle (Lee) Alba, Deslynn Jaquias, Waynette (Jeff) Parraga, Tina (Greg) Parraga-Alejandro, Kai (Kawai) Parraga, Vanessa Parraga, Wesley (Cherisse) Henderson, Dewey (Napua) Henderson, Darius (Sadie) Henderson, Clifford (Jamie) Henderson, Micah (Maiah) Henderson, Liane (Kepa) Henderson, Shannah (Kalei) Parbo, Elisa (Brock) Kawaihalau, Paul Yadao Jr., Aaron (Jamie) Yadao, Kainalu Fernandez, Wai‘ulu Fernandez, Kekoa (Angelia) Cummings, Bryson (Levonn) Cummings, Sunni Efhan and Keli‘ikoa Efhan, 44 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, siblings Vic Datanagan of Daly City, California and Lourdes Corpuz of Ewa Beach, Oahu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery pavilion in Hanapepe at 10 a.m., with inurnment to follow.

Lucia M. Turner
Lucia M. Turner, age 79, of Orlando, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019.
She was born on Oct. 20, 1939, in Lihue, daughter to the late Lorenzo and Theresa (Koerte) Manantan. Upon graduating from Kauai High School, she and her twin sister joined the U.S. Army. Upon returning to Kauai, she began her career at the Kauai Surf Hotel and retired from Banyan Harbor. She enjoyed traveling, singing in the church choir, fishing, and especially gatherings with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold Wayne Turner, and sister Juanita Moises.
She is survived by daughter Pamela Caspersen and her husband Mike, of Orlando, granddaughter Kaitlyn Caspersen of Dallas, grandson Douglas Caspersen and his wife Chelsi of San Diego, twin sister Pacita Joyce and husband Carlton of Swans Island, Maine, sister Dora Jane Rowell of Zumbrota, Minnesota, brother William Manantan and his wife, Orpha, of Lihue, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Monday, Sept. 16, from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at Encore of Avalon Park, 13798 Cygnus Drive, Orlando, 32828.
Funeral services with Chaplain Mark Rath officiating will be following the visitation at 10:30 a.m. at Encore of Avalon Park, and interment with full military honors will be at 2 p.m. at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 US-1, Mims, Florida 32754.
Frank Sentes Jr
Frank Sentes Jr. passed away on May 30, 2019. He had just turned 70.
He and his family were long-time residents of Kekaha and Kalaheo through the ’70s, ’80s and some ’90s. He was born in British Columbia, Canada. His parents and family settled in Ventura, California in 1962.
That is where he pursued drawing, motorcycle riding and surfing. He missed his calling as a stand-up comedian, as he loved joking around and making people laugh with him.
His passion for surfing was everything, and he excelled in it. His class surfing style was a signature of his character as a happy-go-lucky soul. He married the beautiful Lynda Beckner, and she gave birth to their first child, Aaron. Frank was stationed at Fort Ord in Monterey, California. He was honorably discharged and moved with his wife and son Aaron to Kauai.
They embraced the Kauai life in the early ’70s. He lived in a beach home with his four children and hanai daughter, (Lynda’s sister Sandy), in Kekaha. He was a kind, loving, compassionate and forgiving man.
There will be a memorial on Sat., Sept. 14, at the C-Street annual surf contest in Ventura, California. The paddle-out will be from 1 to 5 p.m.
He was preceded in death by parents Frank Sr. and Joyce Sentes, older brother Larry Sentes, brother-in-law Carl Anderson, and his beloved, cherished son Aaron Sentes. He is survived by the mother of his children Linda Beckner, his daughters Ali Sentes (Russell) Fox, Lauren Sentes, and Ashley Sentes, brothers Pat (Camille) Sentes and Anthony (Ruby) Sentes, loving sister Pam Sentes Anderson, six nephews, five nieces and 16 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Betty Leilani Ouye Nestuk
Betty Leilani Ouye Nestuk, 91, of Lihue, passed away Sept. 5, 2019, in Hale Kapuna Heritage Home.
She was preceded in death by husband William Nestuk, parents, Manji “Papa Ouye” and Emma “Mama Ouye” (proprietors of former famed Nawiliwili harbor night club and Chinese/American restaurant Club Jetty) and younger siblings Marian Miyashiro (husband Wilson) and William “Billy” Ouye.
She is survived by son Kimo William Nestuk and daughter Didi Anthony, grandsons Ian Ross and Aaron Ryan Anthony, ever-caring sister-in-law Anita Ouye of Wailua, and Los Angeles-based son-in-law and close phone companion Brian “White Light” Ross.
She served in the kitchen and restaurant of the Club Jetty in the 1960s and ’70s alongside cheerful sister Marian and commanding Cantonese-speaking half-Hawaiian matriarchal “Mama Ouye” prior to achieving a modicum of local 1980s fame as the maverick DJ of the Club Jetty disco highlighted by her trademark white visor cap and dark sunglasses.
Her countless humorous stories of repeated mishaps in Club Jetty meal catering and delivery for Hollywood studio productions on Kauai in the 1950s and early ’60s when roads were significantly more difficult to negotiate revealed a different era of the old Kauai, revealing a portion of that veiled and fabled period of Kauai’s past. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
A brief visitation from 3 to 4:15 p.m. will be held at Kauai Memorial Gardens on Monday, Sept. 16, with family and non-family members all welcome to attend.
