HANAPEPE — Laura Cristobal Andersland, of Salty Wahine Gourmet Hawaiian Sea Salts, said there is only one word for their Hot Lava — “wow!”
Hot Lava won first place in the 2019 Artisan Flave Award salt category.
“I am so pleased that Hot Lava received this prestigious award,” Cristobal Andersland said. “Hot Lava is special. Every time someone tastes Hot Lava, their immediate reaction is ‘wow!’”
Just one of several salts in the Salty Wahine offering, Hot Lava is a spicy and smoky garlic salt, and works great with steak, shrimp, salmon, popcorn, sliced tomatoes, and nearly everything you would put salt and pepper on, she said.
The Artisan Flave Awards succeeds in its mission to provide specialty, craft-made and artisan food manufacturers the opportunity to compete on an international stage against similar sized companies, she said.
The 2019 Artisan Flave Awards, organized by International Flavor Awards LLC, featured submissions from Europe, England, Australia, Canada and South America.
The Artisan Flave Awards boasted winners from unique artisan, hand-crafted products, including “bean to bar” chocolate, healing kombucha elixirs, and chutneys made with eggplant. These were joined by hundreds of other products, like sauces, sweet-and-savory jams and jellies, sassy salts and nut mix creations entering the winner’s circle.
