KALAHEO — Kukuiolono Park will be the meeting place and subject of photography when the 2019 Scott Kelby Photowalk takes place Oct. 5.
Jack Hodges, a local avid amateur photographer who works with a Nikon DSLR and a smartphone, will be leading the Kauai tour for the third year.
“We are a month out from the photography event,” Hodges said. “I am looking for people to sign up as soon as possible.”
On Oct. 5, registered Photowalk camera buffs will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Kukuiolono Park parking lot near the Hawaiian and Japanese gardens.
“Participants have a wonderful opportunity to walk around the park and golf course, photographing the Hawaiian and Japanese gardens, the views of the South hore from the pavilion, the views of Ni‘ihau and the Westside from the upper parking lot near the clubhouse, as well as the wonderful landscaping and flora within the property,” Hodges said. “Kukuiolono Park is nearly 100 years old.”
The Kauai site joins the Scott Kelby’s 12th annual Worldwide Photowalk when photographers embark from different locations on the same date with the objective of spending a morning photographing, then meeting to discuss photos and the experience.
The photowalk website encourages photographers to use a mobile phone, a point-and-shoot camera, or a DSLR and have fun capturing what crosses the lens. Everyone is welcome.
The website further states that most of the participants are amateur photographers who enjoy socializing with others who have similar interests.
Following the walk and discussions, participants have the opportunity to submit their best photo for a chance to win prizes that include a Canon camera and lens, membership to Adobe applications, a gift card, and more.
