Happy birthday, Ken Suenaga of Pearl City Aquatics, who celebrated his special day with his team parents and swimmers at the Mokihana Aquatics Fun Meet (kudos, Mokihana Aquatics Coach Orlando O Anaya and all of his volunteers on a great meet!) at the Kapaa Pool.
Happy birthday, Ken Suenaga of Pearl City Aquatics, who celebrated his special day with his team parents and swimmers at the Mokihana Aquatics Fun Meet (kudos, Mokihana Aquatics Coach Orlando “O” Anaya and all of his volunteers on a great meet!) at the Kapaa Pool.
Ken and Coach O were two of the Hawaii Swimming Hall of Fame coaches offering their expertise and experience to the many young swimmers at the meet, where Swim Kauai Aquatics’ (kudos, Coach Curt Colby!) swimmers were part of the mix.
Coach O was so busy he didn’t even notice when the Alzheimer’s Walk participants (kudos, LJ Duenas and his crew!) went by the pool, doused by a passing morning rain squall. The Metric Century Ride bicyclists even got to take advantage of zooming through that inflatable arch, and mahalo to Arnold Leong and his army of volunteers on the great pancake breakfast (Janice Bond said the East Kauai Lions will doing a spaghetti luncheon Oct. 6 at the convention hall instead of the former pancake breakfast).
Kudos to Josie Pablo for getting the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital residents involved as Team Mahelona, and more kudos to Girl Scout Chloe Waipa (even Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami acknowledged her efforts) on finding dementia friends in the early morning rain.
Finally, kudos to Waimea High School football team on dedicating its 21-0 win over Honoka‘a to Nalani Shigematsu (Coach Jason Caldeira said the Menehune coached three of her sons) and her fight against cancer!
