Congratulations to Waimea High School on the unveiling of the latest 808NoVape (the floor poster at Kukui Grove appears to be doing what it’s supposed to) mural that was created by Lahui led by Ken Nishimura (I like EAST da bes’), Trysen Kaneshige (he paints at the newest Poipu Shopping Village markets!), Victoria Aiu (was waiting for mom Mavis Aiu to do the sketch-a-day on the mural), and the latest member of the crew, Sofia Sentes, who drove in all the way from Wailua to find out that even wana counts!
More back to school excitement as kudos go to Pastor John and Rhonda Cabello and New Hope Lihue on their bash (the Wailua Shave Ice hit the spot for beating the heat — mahalo, Ana Munos!), where more than 400 pairs of slippers were available for kids heading back to school, and mahalo to Safeway Hokulei Village’s Lesah Merritt and her ohana on the collection of five bins of back-to-school material for Kumu’s Cupboard (they take care of educators!).
Congratulations to The Salvation Army’s Lt. Bill Simon, who filled The Salvation Army bus with more school supplies courtesy of Walmart shoppers, and more kudos to kumu and Principal Debra Badua and her Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School ohana on the great sustainability education breakouts celebrating the school’s 20th anniversary — Sam Potter was one of the school’s first students, and we gotta figure out how to view that Mauna video — great job, Sam!
