KAILUA — Keawe Parongao pulled in a seven-yard aerial from quarterback A. Passi to put Kauai High School on the board against Kalaheo High School Friday night during a preseason football game at Kailua High School’s Alex Kane Stadium on Oahu.
Late in the first quarter, the Red Raiders got control of the pigskin, and fueled on runs of 24 yards and six yards by Kamu Peahu, Kauai capped the drive the second play from scrimmage in the second quarter with the touchdown pass that came with 11:48 showing in the half. T. Panit split the uprights on the point-after boot for the 7-0 bulge.
That was the margin of victory for the Raiders who, according to Scoring Live stats, piled up a total of 398 yards in offense to the Mustangs’ 195 yards.
Passi led the Raiders with 132 yards in passing. Easton Luis had catches good for 50 yards for Kauai.
The Raiders amassed 256 yards rushing, with Peahu leading the way with 15 carries for 100 yards. C. Silva got the ball eight times for 10 yards, and Passi kept the ball five times for a net gain of nine yards, his longest carry being a 17-yard scramble.
Kalaheo rushed for 101 yards and passed for 94 yards.
The Red Raiders next host Maui High School on Saturday, Aug. 24 at Vidinha Stadium, with the junior varsity game at 5 p.m. and the varsity game kicking off 30 minutes after the completion of the JV contest.
On Friday, Aug. 23, Waimea High School will host Orange Glen in a single game kicking off at 7 p.m. at Hanapepe Stadium.
Waimea High School will host the Honoka‘a Dragons Saturday, Aug. 17, in a single game starting at 7 p.m. at Hanapepe Stadium.
On the same date, Kapaa High will be on Maui to tackle Lahainaluna High School at the Lunas’ home field for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
The first Kauai Interscholastic Federation football game will kick off on Friday, Aug. 30, when Waimea visits Kapaa at Vidinha Stadium. The JV game starts at 4 p.m. followed by the varsity.
