Toshiko Iida
Toshiko Iida, formerly of Kapaa, passed away on July 30, 2019, at the Regency at Puakea in Puhi.
She was 104½ years old.
She was preceded in death by husband Junichi Iida, parents Josuke and Sode Hamamura, siblings Hatsuyo Kaneko, Megumu Hamamura and Satoshi Hamamura, and two granddaughters.
She is survived by daughters Sally (Wallace-deceased) Yokota, Arleen (Calvin) Fujita, Fay (John) Hanaoka and Jennie (Marvin) Nomi, nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
A private family service will be held at a later date. The family requests no koden (monetary gifts) or flowers.
Joveto ‘Jay’ Acoba
Joveto ‘Jay’ Acoba, of Waimea, passed away at his residence on June 7, 2019, at the age of 88. He was born on March 26, 1931, in Camp 4, Makaweli. He was a member of the U.S. Army and the Hawaii Army National Guard, and was an irrigation supervisor for Olokele Sugar Company, Ltd.
He was preceded in death by parents Rafael and Paulina Acosta Acoba, wife Christina Ariola Acoba, brother Juanito Acoba, brothers-in-law Clarence Ariola, Sr., Paul Begonia, Paustino “Tino” Dana, Joseph Lennon and Donald Sonoda, sisters Dolores Acosta Acoba Donellan and Julia Acoba, sisters-in-law Carolina Ariola Sonoda, Florence Ariola Begonia, Josephine Visitacion Ariola and Frances Yokoyama Acoba.
He is survived by sons Corwin Jay (Joanne) Acoba of Waimea and Christopher (Karen) Acoba of Hanapepe, daughter Joveen (Byron) Wong of Waimea, grandchildren Bryanne ‘Mei’ (Gordon) Wotherspoon of Kenmore, Washington, Kalawe-Kalei ‘Kau‘i’ (Brandon) Kilwein of Everett, Washington, Kaioli (Jennifer) Acoba of Kalaheo, Chyson and Kicah Acoba, both of Hanapepe, great-grandchildren Brydon and Grant Wotherspoon of Kenmore, Washington, Brady Kilwein of Everett, Washington, Hi‘iaka and Kaioli Jay Acoba of Kalaheo, sister Violet Acoba Lennon of Stockton, California, sisters-in-law Celia Ariola Dana of Hanamaulu and Helen Batis Ariola of Lawai, hanai son Pat (Carol Apilado) Baniaga of Kaumakani, hanai daughters Fran (Greg Kingsley) Acoba of Kalaheo and Nadine (Michael) Mier of Eleele, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the Waimea Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary Mission Church from 8 to 10 a.m., with Mass to follow. Inurnment will be held at a later date. The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.

Ronald Hajime Silva Sr.
Ronald Hajime Silva Sr. passed away in Lihue on June 30, 2019, at the age of 77. He was born April 10, 1942, in Lihue, and was a sewer plant operator.
He was preceded in death by parents Alfred and Harriet Silva, wife Jean Puanani Silva, sister Linda Ching and brother Fred Silva.
He is survived by sons Ronald Hajime (Debra Kuali‘i) Silva Jr. of Lihue, Aaron Kanoe (Noelani Ajimine-Silva) Silva of Oahu, grandchildren Brayden Silva, Kysen Silva, Coltyn Silva and Trestyn Silva, brothers Alfred (Harriet) Silva Jr. of Kalaheo, brother-in-law Larry Ching of Lihue, sisters Aileen (Dennis) Higashi of Lihue and Lori Silva of Oahu, sister-in-law Anita Silva of Oahu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe, with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. and prayer service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow.
The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Aurea Laymon
Aurea Laymon of Kapaa passed away on July 12, 2019, at the age of 90. Born on July 19, 1928, on Kauai, she was a retired activities director.
She was preceded in death by parents Esteban and Fortunata Largusa, and husband Philip Laymon.
She is survived by sons Patrick (Noreen) Caycayon, Jerry (Iris) Caycayon and Bruce Laymon, daughters Linda (Gilbert) Miles, Joni Youn and Phyllis (Stuart) Wellington, daughter-in-law Norma Estrada, brother Domingo (Janet) Largusa, sisters Loretta (Ken) Goode and Elaine Prebula, 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Aug. 9, at St. Catherine Church, with visitation at 8:30 a.m. and Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery.

Toshio Kobayashi
Toshio Kobayashi of Koloa passed away on July 18, 2019, at Wilcox Medical Center, at the age of 93.
He was born in Koloa to Ryuichi and Okiyo Kobayashi on March 11, 1926. He retired from Grove Farm Properties as a carpenter leadman and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Army from April 1946 until August 1949 as a corporal in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was honorably discharged with the Army of Occupation Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
At the age of 33, he made the most important decision of his life. He made the decision to believe in Jesus Christ and to receive Him as his personal Lord and savior. From that moment on, he did his best to live a life committed to the Lord, and to raise his children up according to the truth of God’s word.
Through the grace of God and his decision to place his faith in Jesus, we can rest assured that when he took his last breath here on earth, he breathed his next breath in heaven, his eternal home.
He was an active member of Koloa Missionary Church and Hanapepe Church of the Nazarene. He will always be remembered for his hardworking, sacrificial and generous spirit, especially toward his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents Ryuichi and Okiyo Kobayashi, sisters Katsuko Takahashi, Katherine Shizuko Urabe and Itsue Ikehara, and brothers Takeshi Kobayashi and Tatsuo Kobayashi.
He is survived by wife Setsuko Kobayashi, daughters Laurie (Michael) Depoe of Eleele and Lynne Kobayashi of Kalaheo, son Miles (Mary Jean) Kobayashi of Lihue, sister Kikuyo Inouye of Honolulu, brothers Shizuo (Joan) Kobayashi of Kaneohe, James (Lillian) Kobayashi of Wailua and Stanley (Bette) Kobayashi of Koloa, grandchildren Jaycie, Sean, Kody, Allan Jeremy, Mikaela, Madden and Arahbella, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery on Wednesday, Aug. 7, with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. and services at 11 a.m., with lunch and burial to follow.

Yukitoshi (Boogie) Kusaka
Yukitoshi (Boogie) Kusaka passed away at Garden Island Health Care on March 13, 2019, at the age of 87. He was born on Jan. 13, 1932. He retired from the Carpenters Union. He also served in the U.S. Marines, and was a corporal in the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by son Dwayne Kusaka, parents Robert and Masaji Kusaka, brother-in-law Akira Teramoto, nephew Lester Teramoto and brother-in-law Gerry Kikuta.
He is survived by wife Fely Kusaka, son Royden (Weena) Kusaka of Lihue, daughter Norine (Val) Kusaka of Lihue, grandchildren, brothers Charles (Mayor Maryanne) Kusaka of Wailua and Henry (Lynn) Kusaka of Lihue, sisters Helen Teramoto of Honolulu, Kay (Lamont) Shadowens of California, Chieko (Harry) Ehara of California and Dorthy Kikuta of Honolulu, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, at Niumalu Beach Park, at noon.

Anita Vern Aguilar
Anita Vern Aguilar, 80, passed away on July 27, 2019. She was born in Monroe County, Indiana, on June 30, 1939, and had many occupations.
She was preceded in death by husband Johnnie P. Aguilar.
She is survived by hanai daughter Cynthia Lee Miranda of Kauai, nephews Joe Aguilar of Louisiana, Johnnie Wayne Aguilar of Alabama and Louis Anthony Aguilar of Louisiana, grandchildren Louis Anthony Aguilar Jr. of California, Andre’ Christopher Aguilar of Mississippi and Rachel Elizabeth Aguilar of Louisiana, and best friend Dhavala Shanmuga of Kauai.

William Earl Mossman
William Earl Mossman, 88, passed away on June 30, 2019.
He was preceded in death by wife Marilyn A. Mossman and parents William and Rose Mossman.
He retired from a career with the Hawaii Air National Guard and was the first commanding officer of the 150th Aircraft Control & Warning (AC&W) Squadron at Kokee.
He is survived by sons Glenn (Vida) Mossman and Chris (Emi-Jo) Mossman and daughter Jaime Keebler, grandchildren Monica, Kaulana, Ryan (Sadie), Krislyn, Kylie (Nick), Micah, Liam and Logan, great-grandchildren Taylor, Ashlea, Kapono and La‘akea, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Valley of the Temples Chapel on Oahu at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, with services to follow at noon. Burial will follow at Hawaiian Memorial Park Veterans Cemetery at 2 p.m.
