Who would’ve known?
Isabel Gampon started out Saturday morning accompanying the 2018 Miss Hawaii Filipina Joylene Tabon in the Koloa Plantation Days, and before going to bed, was crowned the 2019 Miss Hawaii Filipina…congratulations, Isabel, Chris and Ray!
Mayor Derek Kawakami was also a multi-appearance personality, riding with the Kauai All Girls Rodeo Association (Tammy Pu‘u was the winner of the Garden Island Federal Credit Union’s Paniolo Selfie contest!) and the Kauai Keiki and High School riders before helping Joylene crown Isabel at the Miss Hawaii Filipina scholarship pageant (Tammy and Mahina Pu‘u were there, too!), and Kaleo Carvalho was cruising the parade in a copy of the outfit he donned to emcee the pageant with Stephanie Sadora Iwasaki.
Kudos to Valerie Saiki and her Tobacco-Free coalition on the “unveiling” of the floor poster (kudos to Mark Bonilla and Jamba Juice on the samples that appeared almost every half hour!) connecting vaping with health dangers.
The poster is near the Keiki Korner at the Kukui Grove Center (Mindy Hibbett was getting excited about selling sunglasses at the Koloa Plantation Days for the first time in many years, and where was Annette Hashimoto to enjoy those bubble waffles?) where Kara Swink opened her one-person art show at the Kauai Society of Artists gallery that got a colorful treatment for the show that is available for viewing until Wednesday at the right price — free.
