LIHUE — Rilen Loo of Lihue and Samantha Nichols of Waimea are among the six recipients named to share in $20,000 in scholarships through the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association.
The pair of Kauai junior golfers are joined by Trevor Hirata of Hilo, Alexa Jackson of Wailuku, Maui, Riley Kaneshiro of Hilo, and Matthew Rosato of Kailua, Kona.
The HSJGA awards college scholarships each spring to deserving applicants through the Thos Rohr College Scholarship Fund, the Pard &Betsy Erdman College Scholarship Fund, and the HSJGA College Scholarship Fund.
Additionally, the HSJGA highlighted its alumni who have moved on to college, including Kauai graduates Taryn Taguma who will be heading to the University of Hawaii-Hilo and Braeden Yokoyama moving on to the Arizona State University.
For 2019, the HSJGA has awarded more than $45,000 to its members and alumni through scholarships and grants.
The HSJCA Athlete Assistance program has awarded 22 juniors a total of $12,000 and invites all HSJGA members to apply to the program whose intent is to subsidize the high cost of travel for members and their families.
Additionally, the HSJGA will grant $11,200 to subsidize travel costs for 16 members who are attending team events this summer in Oregon, California, and Alberta, Canada.
